Hello AWESO. Let me be the first to welcome you to the TomCoyote classroom. :wavey:

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 3
Please delete the following files/folders:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT << Whole folder
c:\counter.cab << File Only

If you have any problem deleting these items, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 4
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Thank you, I am on my school computer right now but I was wondering, if I delete the GMT file, will it cause Limewire to stop working? I know I have deleted it before and it has caused me to reinstall, so is it possible for me to just keep that and get rid of everything else?

Gator is malware that you should not have on your computer just to be able to run a file-sharing program. The new version of LimeWire does not have spyware in it. I recommend removing the LimeWire program you have now and install the new version. Here is a list of safe and bad file sharing programs.
I deleted everything using hijack, but it says there is no file called counter.cab and GMT is not in my common files folder, I searched my computer for both and it came up with nothing, and all of the extensions and hidden files are shown. I have updated Limewire since I posted my log I think, could that have gotten rid of it? Here is my new log after rebooting.

Log appears clean now. Are the popups gone now? If everything is working well now, I'll give you some recommendations to better secure the computer.
ok well now i dont know if this is related but it says my AOL Instant Messenger is losing RAM, and it happened after i deleted the files, so now I am losing people off of my buddylist. Other than that everything is fine.
None of the items that were fixed had anything to do with AIM. Not sure why that program would be having a problem now.
You can ask about that problem in the Other Computer Problems Forum.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

MOST IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and IE to get all the Latest Security Patches to protect your computer from the malware that is on the internet.
I recommend going to the following link and update to SP2. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Updates

Here is a great link that explains the procedure for updating to SP2 with less complications (scroll down to the second post).

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "So how did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Not sure if SBC has fixed that problem yet. I would think that since SP2 has been out for a year now that the issue should have been resolved. You may need to give them a call to find out. If everything else is working, I'll go ahead and close this thread.
Glad we could be of assistance. This topic is now closed. If you wish it reopened, please send us an email (Click for address) with a link to your thread.

Make sure you use proper prevention to keep from having problems occur to your computer in the future.
