Help! looking for spyware

I am totally new to this type of forum so i'm hoping someone can help. My computer runs slow, especially right after booting it up. I suspect spyware or some other "very bad thing!!" Can someone look at my log and tell me if i should get rid of any of this?? I have aol spyware, mcafee spyware, the paid version of adaware. thanks for any help u canLogfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hello Tricia and sorry for the wait we are extremely busy :( If you still need help please post a new HJT log as changes can occur over this much time.
Before you post you are running from a .zip file in a temporary directory. That is why you got this message when you ran HJT from there: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif Please use these links to properly position your HJT.exe.

thanks for the suggestions, but i'm so incompetent that i don't know how to run the log in something else. Not even sure i can remember how to run it in the original form. do u have time to tell me in a step by step manner?? i'll understand if you can't :-) I know you are very busy!! thanks

Hello Tricia, I only see one item I do not like and I am having a little trouble identifying it, but I will share it with you: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [K] C:\documents and settings\tricia\local settings\temp\K.exe
It's hiding in a temp file and called K.exe. This may be what it is: http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/content/v_122037.htm but I am not sure. What I want to do is run some scans to see if we can kill it and anything else bad that may be hiding. If that sounds good to you, please do this in the posted order. Take your time and follow the directions carefully and you will have no problems. These tools are all free.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

3) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

4) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")


5) Run CCleaner, when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let me know how the computer is running now.
Make sure you clean under Windows and Applications tabs as shown in the tutorial.

ok im confused. on the ccleaner website there are more than 1 program to download. i clicked on the download tab and it wants me to pay $20. is that the program i need? the problem is that i don't use paypal.

Near the top of the page between Features and Screenshots, click on the word "Download". Then click on this download link:

Then click on "Run this program now" and CCleaner will put it in C:\Program Files.
Allow it to download to the default C:\Programs Files. Have it place on a shortcut on the desktop, don't check all those other choices. thanks, i just didn't want to click on the wrong thing. i know its on a recommended website, but i still an wary of all free downloads!! i already have ad aware and spybot. I'll do the download now.

Thanks for the HJT log :) I must point out that it is out of order. Return to the instructions in item#4 and download, update and configure as in the intruction, then run Ewido scan making sure to take action when it finds a problem. When it has finished running, make sure to save the scan report, then post that report and a new HJT log that is run AFTER the Ewido scan.

Please take the time to read carefully and follow the directions.
