Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

Do I need that ATA hot key poller?! Is that Comcast Toolbar a good or bad? I rarely if ever use IE now, so should I remove the toolbar or is it no big deal? Thanks
ati2evxx.exe is the ATI External Event Utility for your ATI display drivers. It manages the ATI Hotkey feature. This process can be removed to free up resources without comprimising system performance.

Yes you can remove them fropm startup.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: Comcast Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-93BE-BE2DF4D9AE29} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMCAS~1\COMCAS~1.DLL

O3 - Toolbar: Comcast Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-93BE-BE2DF4D9AE29} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMCAS~1\COMCAS~1.DLL

O23 - Service: Ati HotKey Poller - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot. Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi! got home late today. Have just fixed the items you mentioned. Will reboot and let you know how things are running. One of the problems that started during the spyware attack is still happening. I have a cable connection for internet. If I am using Firefox or IE and then close, I often cannot get back on to the internet. It runs and runs trying to find Google (set as my homepage) and eventually times out or says it can't find Google. The problem is remedied after a reboot. Nothing else is necessary. It is not a service problem because we have another computer (not networked) getting same service and it does not do this! This all started during the Spyware trouble. Help!?? Thanks
Hi. Computer booted much faster that it has been the last few weeks. Each change has been a little more of an improvement. It switches much quicker from the XP screen to the Welcome screen. Only slow spot is when Zone Alarm and Spyguard load. Much slower than it used to be….not super bad…just slower than before the problems.

Also, notice that the hot key poller is still there on HJT even though I followed your instructions. Now what?
Thanks again!

:rant2: Bad news! Something just isn't right. Got kicked off internet this morning. Could not get back on Firefox or IE. Had to reboot twice. Outlook, of course, does not work until I reboot. It really hangs during the load up of Zone Alarm…sounds like something runs for a long time before it is done. Zone Alarm was never like that before the big problem. Have Silent Runners on my computer. Ran it after reboot and here is a copy of the log. Don't know if it will help or not…Thanks

MicroWorld Antivirus & spyware toolkit 7.0.8 finds 3 viruses. I just started running it, since someone else told me to load it when all of this started. Shows Bearshare, Unknown Toolbar Spyware/Adware and Weatherbug…odd since the Unknown Toolbar had been removed and Weatherbug is gone. Remember – I didn't want to remove it and now it is still here! The scan also seems to be finding a ton of errors… Help some more! :(
RegCleaner Download Now! (540KB) Jouni Vuoro Software

Description: RegCleaner is an easy to use program. With RegCleaner you can easily get rid of those old and obsolete registry entries created by software that you have destroyed ages ago. And by easily, I mean easily. You don´t have to be any expert to use this program.

Here's how it goes:
  • Download and install it.
  • Click on the RegCleanr.exe
  • Tools (at the top) > Registry Cleanup > Do Them All
  • Then 'Select' (at top left) > choose ALL
    'Remove Selected" (at bottom right)
  • A backup of all that was removed will be made, just choose 'Backups' (top right) to view them, you can delete them when you're confident they're no longer needed.
Direct download:

After the above and a reboot:
Try to run the scan again.
Hi. Downloaded RegCleaner and ran it, found stuff…not too much, but some. Will reboot and scan. Still losing my internet connection and having to reboot. Always seems like I am somewhat low on resources. Multi tasking on the computer is not possible. Programs freeze up. Still it is better than it was a couple weeks ago, but not back to its old self! Thanks for your help.
