POP UPS HAVE TAKEN OVER!

Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

OK–I am stuck for the moment. The link you sent me is http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/acti…n_principal.htm

The Panda online scan does not have a place to check for autoclean, and I am not sure about what you mean about a full scan. What I did was the online scan, then clicked on My Computer, but there was no autoclean, etc. Halfway a box popped up asking for a profile with Outlook selected. Then it scanned and gave the results pasted in below.

So, then I looked at the free download of Panda Titanium and downloaded it, but it will not install unless I uninstall Norton which I am not sure about. My Norton subscription runs out September 1, so this is a good time to get a new antivirus program.

I want to ask what tools you think we should have permanently to keep this PC from getting infected again once it is all cleaned up?

Tell me what to do from thsi point and I will do it.

Thank you so much for all your help thus far. Here is: 1. Panda scan results
2. Hijack This results.

Click on this link http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Start Killbox and click on Tools < Delete Temp Files. When that finishes, copy and paste each of the following lines into the Full Path of File to Delete box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each. Keep track of any files it tells you either could not be found or could not be deleted, as you'll need those later:

C:\WINDOWS\INF\biini.inf
C:\PROGRAM FILES\_SUPERBAR
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\APPLICATION DATA\Lycos
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FLEOK
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\FAVORITES\Casino & Carrers
C:\install-tag001.exe
C:\WINDOWS\easys32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\inf\bi7.inf
C:\WINDOWS\installer_pp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\biL.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msfdje.gif
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmltok.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ASHeuristic\installer_pp.exe.vir
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\DrTemp\ceres.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\AZK9ANCJ\upexactpop[1].html
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\wrapperouter.exe

For the files that it either couldn't find or couldn't delete, in the killbox again this time, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

After the reboot, scan with HijackThis and post the new log as a reply to this thread.
If everything is working well, I'll give you some recommendations to help keep the computer clean.
Did everything per your instructions.

Your new log appears clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "So how did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Alan, I need to report a problem that started after the last step we did. When I shut my computer down and go to restart it, the CD drive light flashes, and the compter does not want to turn on. After holding it for a good 30 seconds, it makes a beeping sound like when a key on your keyboard is stuck, and then boots up. Any ideas?
Was this after the Killbox instructions or after Resetting System Restore? When it does finally bootup, does the computer operate normally?
After the sytem restore, things seemed totally well until I had shutdown completely and rebooted/powered up. That start process was acting different than normal although I could not put my finger on it–just seemed different but no problems at first. After powering up from a cold start a couple times it started doing what it is doing. Press the power swtich, nothing happens. Hold it, the CD drive light flashes and then it starts after 15-30 seconds and then makes a beeping noise like keyboard is stuck. The computer seems ok once running, although the web browsing using Mozilla Firefox is super slow which is usually faster than IE. Internet Explorer is zipping right along pretty well when I use it. All other functions seem good. I am going to clean the dust out of the insides and make sure it is not something that simple. I am hesitant to shut down lest I cannot get it to turn on again. After we had finished cleaning the system, I downloaded a Sealed Media unsealer for business article PDF files I ordered from Harvard Business School to my desktop. Thanks. A little nervous here… This computer is the hub of my life. C an you recommend a good backup program so I can have the whole PC backed up. Been doing it to disk via regular Windows Explorer and do backups for financial programs, etc.
That sounds more like a hardware problem to me. You can try posting in the Other Computer Problems Forum as I only clean the malware and do not know much about PC troubleshooting. Be sure to include a link to this thread so they can see that your computer is clean of malware.
