my computer is acting sluggish & weird!

Hi,

I am new here. My computer is slowing down and my mouse isn't working right. I did a system restore and my mouse started working.

I ran HS Remove 3x, and each time it said it removed 8 items.
I ran Spybot, nothing found.
I ran Adaware, nothing found.
I ran a-squared which removed 2 items, and forgot to write them down.
I ran spybot, and it had this to say (which I don't understand):

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.


Step 2
Please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Click "Scan your PC". After the ActiveX controls load, click "My Computer" to do a full system scan.


Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Hi again, I did step one as you suggested. Step 2 I had problems with. I went to the site, and everytime i followed directions, nothing downloaded. I placed the site as a safe site and my firewall, and i also added it to Internet options, then privacy list for ok sites. I tried 4 times without success. Any other suggestions? The first time I tried to run that scan a few weeks ago, I had similar trouble. After clearing the Temporary Internet Files it worked.

You can try that by deleting all files and folders that are in these folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\Every username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files (Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Files), be sure to also select delete all offline content.
Empty the Recycle Bin.


Now try the PandaScan again. If it still will not work, here is another online scan to try:

Bitdefender

Be sure to save a log of anything that could not be fixed.

Your new log appears clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.


I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "So how did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
