Whenever I start my pc (Dell running winXP) Zone Alarm advises that the program tlntsvr.exe (telnet server?) is tring to connect to the internet. I deny the request, but I want to see if this is normal, or do I have a 'bad guy' on board trying to do something.

I have run Spybot and ad-aware before running HiJackThis. The following is my HiJack This log:

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. A scan of your HijackThis log indicates no obvious problems, your question about the tlntsvr.exe returns the following information:
A search of tlntsvr.exe returns this information: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_t.htm This is an excerpt from that and I suggest you read all of the information available.

Microsoft’s Telnet Server service for Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003.  When running, this service gives Telnet access to remote users.  For the layman :  Telnet access is a method of connecting and login onto a remote computer and run DOS commands, command-line programs, and DOS commands which can start Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 services on the remote PC/server.

This is not my area but my gut is that it has to do with this: C:\Program Files\DirectUpdate\DUEngine.exe I would discuss this with Microsoft and perhaps your ISP Provider to help you decide rather or not it is needed and you need to allow it access in Zone Alarm. I hope this helps.

A http://www.google.com/ search for telnet server returns lots of information but I am not sure any answers. Take a look, perhaps it will help:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=telne…G=Google+Search
This sounds very much like a valid item but you may still wish to check as I said above to be sure.

Thanks…pskelley
