Hi and thanks for any help! I am very anal about keeping spyware off my computer. I use Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster and CounterSpy 3-4 times a week. All these products are not finding any spyware but I am getting popup windows usually from mediaclick or fast media (can't remember the exact name) everytime I open the internet. I have been using Internet Explorer but mostly using Mozilla Firefox.

Here is my log:

Any help would be appreciated!!!
Hello Pog24 and welcome to TomCoyote forum. Nothing is showing up in the log, so lets use a few scans to see what happens. If you are positive your Spybot/Adware are the newest version, updated and configured like in the link, you can skip that step, if not run them with Spybot first, a reboot and then Ad-aware. Thanks.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions on the download page and please do not run it until I ask you to.

2) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php Please do not activate TeaTimer until we are finished with the repair.

3) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

4) Run CCleaner, when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure your do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with and feedback you have.

Thanks…pskelley

Slyware Warrior
Hey pskelley thanks for your help. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to respond or was I doing something wrong. This was my time posting a HJT log. LOL

Okay here we go. I ran Spybot (ver1.4) and nothing was found. I ran Adaware (ver 1.6) two cookies were found (again that realmedia cookie). Ran Ewido and found like 35 items but I have 3 hard drives and duplicate files on each hard drive so it actually found like 10 items. Ran Ccleaner (ver 1.22). I rebooted after each program like the instructions said.

Here are my logs:

Thanks agin for your help. I am also glad that I now know how to use HJT and post logs for others help. I am relatively spyware free but my friends and their kids have TONS of spyware and I am always getting calls to help them. HJT will help me in the future. :-)

Hey pskelley thanks for your help. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to respond or was I doing something wrong. This was my time posting a HJT log. LOL

No my friend, it is just extremely busy here and we are all volunteers with real jobs and families also. Here is the link our Administrator has provided if you wait longer than five (5) days: http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=31622
Thanks for the logs, but there is no need for the Ad-aware log unless it is requested, we know what it does and the log is long and usually usless…Thanks.
I see you have chosen to ignore many items Ewido indicates are problems:
C:\BOWEP\PopCap Games\9 Popcap Games with Cracks\Big Money Deluxe v1.11 with Crack\BigMoney1_11_patch.exe -> Trojan.FraggleRock.155 : Ignored Are you sure about this? If you have done this in error, run the scan again and choose delete or quarantine then post a new Ewido log with a fresh HJT log also. Your call.

Your HJT log is still showing clean, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Thanks agin for your help. I am also glad that I now know how to use HJT and post logs for others help. I am relatively spyware free but my friends and their kids have TONS of spyware and I am always getting calls to help them. HJT will help me in the future. :-)

You are so welcome, glad we could help a little. I will say to be careful with HJT, but it does make backups by default that can be restored if a mistake is made:
Here are a couple of tutorials if it helps:

Free training at several sites is available if you ever want to learn more about this
process to help yourself or perhaps even help others.
I will also say that as long as you are dealing with Windows 2000 and Xp, Ewido is an excellant tool to use, especially since it leaves control in your hands. Good luck and safe surfing…Phil

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks again. Thanks for the links you provided also. I wasn't complaining about how long it took. I would have gladly waited longer. I was just saying that because no one responded I thought I had done something wrong. The service y'all provide is greatly appreciated by everyone! Keep up the good work and many, many thanks agian to yu and everyone else who takes time out of the days to help us. I am sure about the items I decided not to delete. I have had most of them for years and never had any problems. That is why I kept them. Besides the fact that I will need them again in the future. Just out of curiosity, why do you say to be careful with the HJT log? Thanks again you ROCK!
You are certainly welcome, I was glad to do what little I could. Here is a quote from the TomCoyote quick start page:
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/#Top
HijackThis examines certain key areas of the Registry and Hard Drive and lists their contents. These are areas which are used by both legitimate programmers and hijackers. It's up to you to decide what should be removed. Some items are perfectly fine. You should not remove them. Never remove everything. Doing that could leave you with missing items needed to run legitimate programs and add-ins. This Page will help you work with the Experts to clean up your system. For those of you needing instructions on how to Copy and Paste the contents of a text file into a Forum Post, please look at the Table of Contents. A link to the instructions is included.

I said this: I will say to be careful with HJT, but it does make backups by default that can be restored if a mistake is made:
And it seems you heard this:

Just out of curiosity, why do you say to be careful with the HJT log?

This is a great tool, but in the hands of someone inexperienced, damage can occur. So, not knowing your level of expertise, you received the same warning I give everyone. To be careful with the tool and consults expert help if you are unsure about an item. I give this warning to many folks. I have heard of folks who decided to do their own repair, and the backups all went into a Temp folder because they did not read the instructions, then they proceeded to clean out all temp stuff, and there went the backups. When problems occur with no backups and no knowledge of even what they removed…well you can imagine. I have heard of folks who thought right away that what was in the log was all bad and they deleted everything and also had no backups, and no CD to restore anything from. HJT is a very good tool, but like all tools, the person who uses the tool determines if the outcome of it's use is constructive or destructive.
Safe surfing…Phil
