HT Log...what's wrong here?

Hi…I TRY to NOT be high maintenance when it comes to computers (I don't know a lot, but always learning), but alas, something always "pops up" (pun intended) and dishes me a little bit of humble pie!

I recently downloaded something and afterwards, I knew something wasn't right…but it was too late. I ran AVG and at first it found nothing. But yesterday and today, it is finding downloader.generic.zz in two files…both are currently in the virus vault.

Ad Aware SE found lots: SAHAgent, BlockedSpace (?) and other adware.

I was checking out my start processes and thought some looked fishy.

Can anyone help? I hope it's something easy to fix…a snap of the fingers, twitch of the nose sort of thing!

Hi Ken,

Okay, ran HJT and have log.

I tried to delete C:\\WINDOWS\SM1bg.exe but it wouldn't let me:

"Can not delete SM1bg.exe: Access is Denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." Huh?

I do have Napter installed, so I left that alone?

Computer seems to be running fine. I have some downloader trojans in the virus vault. WHat do I do with those? "Wipe objects"?

System seems to be running fine…it has for a couple of days now. Don't know if it was something I caught and got rid of, or what, but I'm very grateful to you for checking everything over.

Oh, and I got rid of McAfee Virus program…have never used it! I have Spy Sweeper installed…should I get rid of that too? Should I keep Spybot S & D…it seems a bit more complicated a program, but maybe it's worth keeping and learning to use more proficiently!?

I don't see anything bad on your log. If you are NOT using Nokia, there are a few things we can clean to free up your system, if you are than there is nothing else to fix.

You did a great job of hanging with me and going through the fixes.

As far as that line in HJT O4 - Global Startup: Forget Me Not.lnk = ?, its gone, you most likely got it the first time even with that error.

Take some time off, you deserve it

Here is a list of things to do and some programs to install, anti spyware is a little different than anti virus, you can run a few at a time. Ad-Aware does not run in the background but is used as just a scanner. You should get in the habit of running these programs every now and than to keep your system clean. CCleaner is a great program for keeping all the built up garbage off your system. Be sure to follow the instructions for cleaning out the temp files and system restore. If you run CCleaner first, it will take less time to clean them out manually.

Here are some free programs and tips for keeping your system up to date, and to help keep all the riff raff out of your system.


*Run CCleaner, this is a very safe program that will clean out all the crapola on your system. It will also remove cookies,
so go to OPTIONS/ COOKIES and move the ones you want to keep from the left window to the right window.

Now that your clean, we need to erase all possible older infected files that may still be lurking on your system.
clean out your TEMP FILES

* This procedure should be run from SAFEMODE for better results.

To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

Now, while in SAFEMODE,

* click on START/ RUN , and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This will open up the temp directory that your machine uses. GO TO EDIT/ SELECT ALL and delete all the contents of that folder.
* Do this for each user of your computer.
* Do this same process for %windir%\temp.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

DELETE TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB, (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

Now we need to TURN OFF and then TURN BACK ON SYSTEM RESTORE.

This will remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent
any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points
which are likely to be infected)


Turn off System Restore.

* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.


Reboot your System


Turn ON System Restore.

* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.
* Now while in System Restore, create a new Restore Point.

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.
* If you want to use a free program, try this excellent one.

When it asks you if you want it to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. After you
use this for awhile, you will want to make it your default.
