IE homepage/popunder/favourites/tab-Toolbar

I've run NAV, Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Spyware Doctor to try to stop homepage resetting, addition of 'Cool Stuff, Gaming, Parmacy etc..' to favourites that cannot be removed, blue popup bar at foot of screen that's always 'on top', and a toolbar with tabs that update according to page content.
I've used regedit to lose 4 references to 'lop' and 'search2' in HKCU/software/microsoft/internet explorer/new window/Accept.

Finally found you forum and ran HJT…. here's the log - TIA.

Hello chrisbwigan and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.bacnvikirgc.com/mjk1lhRbuUrdQdQ…QpdFg5JpTPa.php

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DC1F0B1F-D2EA-A798-DC3A-A19EE4012E89} - C:\DOCUME~1\Chris\APPLIC~1\INFODA~1\DELETEDOG.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [User Software Bin Wipe] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Seek sixth user software\BeepBore.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [clocklist] C:\DOCUME~1\Chris\APPLIC~1\BONEHO~1\Road Axis.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 3
Please delete the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Seek sixth user software
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Application Data\INFODA~1 << Whole Folder with name beginning with Infoda.
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Application Data\BONEHO~1 << Whole Folder with name beginning with Boneho.

If you have any problem deleting these items, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 4
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Thanks alsocom.

Followed your instructions and only encountered a few anomalies…
a) the R1 - HKCU\... entry had changed it's URL from www.bacnvikirgc to some other unintelligble site.

B) I could only delete folder Seek sixth user software in safe mode since ACTIVE TIME FOUR was active. This has no file extension but lists as a filetype of File.

c) Folder names were Bone hole vc and InfoDashItch , deleted in Safe Mode.

d) first time I restarted, the R1 - HKCU\… entry and the O4 - HKCU\..\Run:[clocklist] entry recurred. I removed them using HJT then looked through the other users on this machine and deleted enries from my son's Application Data folders.

The new log follows:

One more thing to check before I can give the all clean.

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text into it:

notepad files.txt

Save this as findjobs.bat, choose to save it as *all files* and place it on your desktop.

Doubleclick on findjobs.bat and post the content of the textfile you get in your next reply.

alsocom,

I can't find any references to Messenger Plus in 'Add or Remove Programs' nor any obvious names in Program Files folder. MSN Messenger is still installed, and regularly used by my son (who no longer has Administrator privileges!). I see folders in Program Files for Messenger and MSN Messenger that are Microsoft certified installations.

In the course of this checking I noticed an empty folder in Program Files named bone hole vc which I've deleted.

Outputs below as rewuested, and thanks again.

Delete the remjob.bat that you saved previously as we'll need to make a new one.

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text into it:

Doubleclick on remjob.bat. A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

Afterwards, doubleclick on findjobs.bat again and paste the content of the txtfile you get in your next reply.

That fixed the last entry. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
