Hello hersoldier and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Step 1
You have Spybot S&D's Teatimer running which is good, but we need you to disable it for the remainder of the fix as it will interfere with the registry changes being made.
Open Spybot S&D in advanced mode, click Tools > Resident, and remove the check from "Resident Tea-Timer". Reboot after unchecking the entry.

Be sure to re-enable this option again once the computer is clean.

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - URLSearchHook: URLSearchHook Class - {37D2CDBF-2AF4-44AA-8113-BD0D2DA3C2B8} - C:\Program Files\JUSearch\SearchEnh1.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {1ce6ca79-10d9-4c98-938a-4f9ba34fed60} - (no file)

O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
Resource hog that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required either way.
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Fix these if you or an administrator did not set these restrictions with Internet Explorer or a program such as Spybot S&D wasn't used to set them.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.

I also ran Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1, & Spyware Doctor…

Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 finds:

PowerReg Scheduler
Type: Spyware
Author: Leader Technologies

Description: PowerReg Scheduler is a registration system used by some legitimate software programs.

Advice: Moderate-risk items have some potential for adverse effect, but may be part of a wanted service. Users may decide to ignore such programs after review.

Spyware Doctor finds:

Infection Name: IncrediFind

IncrediFind by eUniverse.com

IncrediFind
Infection risk level: High
Infection description: IncrediFind is adware supplied by eUniverse.com. It runs at startup and generates popup ads. It monitors web sites visited, so that ads may be targeted, hijacks the hosts file, redirects Netscape searches, hijacks error pages and address bar searches, and adds an Internet Explorer toolbar providing a search field.
+++

The computer runs fine but it still finds these problems and then doesn't remove them.

Thanks again!
That new log appears clean. Do you have any other user accounts on this computer?

For PowerReg Scheduler, there should be an entry in Add/Remove Programs to remove this item from the computer.

Let's run another scan to see if it can find anything.

  • Double-click it to run it.
  • Read then accept the agreement.
  • Check Drive, and select all local drives, scan all files, then press 'scan'. (This may take a while and will not fix anything)
  • Once it finds something, it will prompt you so click OK.
  • When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
  • Highlight it with the mouse, copy it (CTRL+C), and paste (CTRL+V) it in your next reply.
Note : It will find many orphaned registry entries so please do not be alarmed by the amount of items that show.
Hey Alan…

I run my computer from the Administrator and have no other accounts setup. I couldn't find PowerReg Scheduler in Add/Remove Programs. But I did a windows search and found "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Leadertech\PowerRegister\PowerReg.dat" I see that this path holds all the similar names and it belongs to Sonic DVD. I opened the dat file and it had reference of me, being open to promotions and receive information from parties other than Sonic on their related products. This software came with my SONY DVD recorder.

I did the Microworld scan and it found:

25 viruses, and 69 errors

Does Microsoft Antispyware show the file found for PowerReg Scheduler?

It looks like Spyware Doctor is picking up a false positive for the Incredifind entry. It may be finding it in the definitions file of another scanner program. There are no signs of it in your log nor in the mwavscan log.

Post a fresh HijackThis log and if it is still clean, I'll give you some recommendations to help secure the computer.
Hey Alan…

I removed the files you asked me to. I ran the Microsoft AntiSpyware again and it turned up nothing, but I did find it (the file) in Quarantine.

File:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\PowerReg Scheduler.exe

I quess I should just delete that Quarantine entry? huh?

Here's the HJT log:

Open Microsoft Antispyware, click Tools < Summary scan and click Manage Spyware Quarantine. Remove (do not restore) all files from the Quarantine.

Your new log appears clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Hey Alan…

Woo whoo thanks a bunch! I "DO" feel clean and so does my computer.

What is the tipical amount that people donate?

You guys are a rare breed, nowdays! To generously give of your time to help out somebody you don't even know.

THANKs

Jim, aka: hersoldier
Your welcome. Glad to be able to help you out. I'm not sure what the typical donation amount is as I do not have access to that information. It is up to your discretion for the amount. The donations are used to pay for bandwith and other expenses for the website.
