    • Click 'Next' and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the
options you have selected and clean automatically.
    • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries in the registry or bad files, you will
receive a list of what it found in the window
    • Save the log file when it asks and then click 'finish'
    • REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found
  • I would like you to do a free online virus scan at Trend Micro Houscall
Let Houscall fix anything it finds. Make a note of anything it can not clean and include the information in your next post.

  • I want you to download Microsoft Antispyware Beta from http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s…re/default.mspx. It is free and available for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server™ 2003.

To set up Microsoft Antispyware Beta1 for best results please read the tutorial here . Be SURE to get the latest updates for the program.

To post a log from Microsoft AntiSpyware do as follows:
    Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click "Tools" > "Spyware Scan" > View Spyware Scan History.
    Highlight the latest scan.
Click "View full details of scan" found in the lower right corner.
Right-click on the window with the details of the scan.
    Click "Select All"
Click Ctrl + c to copy the contents

Paste the content into a new post in this topic together with a new Hijack This log and a description of your problems

  • Please print out the following instructions as this page will be unavailable to you while you are working in Safe Mode, and you should have all windows and folders closed as well.

This is the best way to set ewido up so that it works correctly without giving problems…

Download and install ewido Security Suite:

    Please download ewido Security Suite
    • Install ewido security suite
    • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu."
    • Launch ewido, there should be a big "E" icon on your desktop, double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update; click the "OK" button
    • The program will now go to the main screen

      Update ewido:

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
    • Click on Start

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, exit ewido.

      IMPORTANT!:

Once the updates are installed do the following:
    • If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.
    • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run ewido.
    • Close all open windows/programs/folders. Have nothing else open while ewido performs its scan!

      Scan with ewido:
    • Click on scanner
    • Click on Settings
      • Under "How to scan" all boxes should be selected
      • Under "Possibly unwanted software" all boxes should be selected
      • Under "What to scan" select scan every file
      • Click OK
    • Click on Complete system scan
    • Let the program scan the machine
    • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. NOTE: We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so you need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, AOL, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged. In particular, watch for alerts that have the word "Heuristic" in them - if you recognize the file name as "friendly," these may actually be false positives) select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections." If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I will see it in the log that you will post later and will let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

      Save and Post Your Report:

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop
    • Exit ewido
    reboot back into normal mode

When you are ready to post your next reply to your active topic, double click on the saved report to open it, then use Ctrl + A to select all text, then Ctrl + C to copy the selected text to your clipboard. Next, open a new reply to your active topic, and use Ctrl + V to paste the copied text of the ewido log from your clipboard into your reply.

  • Run a new HijackThis scan and post the log together with the information from Trend Housecall, Microsoft AntiSpyware, and Ewido.

Hopefully this will clean up some of the junk and give information on some of the other infections.

Hi Sparkie1966

Your log looks nearly clean now. This is what still needs to be done:

  • We need to disable Microsoft AntiSpyware During the fix. It can resist it and undo some fixes.
    • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
    • Click on Tools, Settings.
    • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
    • Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
    • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
    • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
    • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

After the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

  • Open HijackThis and click "Do a System Scan Only". (If HijackThis shows a "Scan" button that is OK.) When the scan is finished put a check mark by the items that are listed in below. If you can not find an item just continue but inform me with your next post. Do not click fix until instructed to do so:

    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/25b878a3932e9d…ip/RdxIE601.cab

Close all open windows except HijackThis and then click the "Fix checked" button.

This should clean out your log.

This is IMPORTANT: You need to update your Windows. It is out of date. The version you should have at this time is Windows XP with SP2.

If you have a high-speed internet connection, go to”Start”> "Tools" menu > "Windows Update" or go to Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Updates to get the critical updates including SP2.

However if you have a dialup connection I would advise you to order the CD as the download is large and will take a VERY long time to download.
You can get the CD here .
Please inform me if you had any problems with the upgrade.

Now I want you to clean up some loose ends and take some precautions to avoid being re-infected
  • Clean out Temporary Files etc. Download System Security Suite from http://www.igorshpak.net/software/3ssetup104.zip. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and double click on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. Reboot when prompted. It is a good idea to do this every few weeks as a lot of junk collects there over time.

  • . Disable and Enable System Restore.
If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Also see the following: Internet Explorer Privacy & Security Settings
Working with Internet Explorer 6 Security
Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you don't have to use it.
Try a different browser like Firefox .
It is also worth trying Thunderbird for controlling spam in your e-mail.

  • Always use a anti-virus program and KEEP IT UPDATED
It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

  • Always use a firewall.
I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen to often with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Be restrictive with granting access to the internet. If you are unsure if the program really needs the access, test it by denying the access and see if this has any negative effects. If not, make the block permanent.

  • Never run two Antivirus programs or two Firewalls at the same time. They can interfere with each other and cause problems.

  • MOST IMPORTANT : You Need to keep “Windows” and "Internet Explorer” updated. Open ‘Internet Explorer” and go to”Start”> "Tools" menu > "Windows Update" or go to Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Updates to get the critical updates.

  • If you are running Microsoft Office, or any portion thereof you must keep it updated as well. Go to the Microsoft's Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the critical updates installed. Update MS Office here.

  • You will find more about how to protect yourself as well as suggested programs for this purpose HERE.
PLEASE READ IT AND FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDATIONS TO PROTECT YOURSELF.

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the the protection programs regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

  • It is worth while to take a look at "So how did I get infected in the first place? for some good advice.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I am glad if I was able to help.
