Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 11:03:43 PM, on 7/2/05 Platform: Windows 98 SE (Win9x 4.10.2222A) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) When I turn on my computer or restart, I get the message of cannot locate a file or application that uses IPVNMon.vxd, and either reinstall that file or app, or delete the file or app that uses it. I do not know what uses IPVNMon.vxd. Running searches on the net leads me to something about a Yahoo service that I don't have on my computer. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. Jonathan
Welcome to TomCoyote.org! I agree with your research on that file. It appears it's not necessary for your machine to function properly. I think you have two options: 1. Replace the file 2. Remove whatever it is that's trying to load the file. Could you please post your complete Hijack This! log file? Are you familiar & comfortable working with your system registry (in case you may have to remove it that way)? If not, I have links to tools that could assist you with registry edits.
Micah 6:8 thank you for replying. My HJT logfile has been posted in the HJT forum as IPVNMon.vxd thread. Thanks very much. I've looked at the log and I didn't see anything I could easily tell was related. Maybe you can. Thanks again. Jonathan
hmm.. removing vxd's is deffinately NOT a good idea. Get your 98 cd and put it in the drive. Click start, then run and type c:\Windows\System\Sfc.exe.
We weren't removing it. Something else had already done that for us. We were just getting rid of the "file missing" error when he booted.
I apologize for bumping this topic back to the top, but I feel there needs to be clarification made for anyone reading this topic.

Obviously this:

2. Remove whatever it is that's trying to load the file.

Should only be done if:

1. This cannot be done:

1. Replace the file

OR

2. You have determined that the particular "missing file" is not necessary for the stable operation of the computer, and the software contained thereon.

Apology accepted. However, it seems it wasn't necessary because you were not at fault here. It appears I have taken what you said in the wrong manner. I offer my sincerest and humblest apologies for taking what you said in the wrong manner.
