Hi everyone. I have noticed that for the past few days things on my computer have started to slow down or almost lock up. I was wondering if you good folks here could take a look at my log and tell me if you see anything that needs to be removed before I move on to further troubleshooting my problem. Thanks in advance.

Hello kcd1 and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

It appears that you have recently uninstalled McAfee Antivirus as most of the items for it are missing or orphaned. I've included the entries for it to remove so skip them if you still have it installed on your computer.
There is nothing in the log that should cause the computer to slow down. We'll get everything out that is unnecessary then you can continue to troubleshoot the causes.

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing)

Remove these if McAfee Antivirus has been uninstalled.
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcupdate.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe (file missing)

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Delete this folder if McAfee is removed above:

C:\Program Files\McAfee.com

Step 3
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Okay! Followed the steps you gave me but the McAfee one won't come off. There is no McAfee folder in program files either. May have to reinstall it then remove it again. Here is my new log though. Thanks.

Since McAfee has been removed, you have no protection for your computer. I recommend downloading and installing the following free programs:
ZoneAlarm Firewall
AVG7 Antivirus.

Be sure to check for updates after installation.

Reboot the computer and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Well that did it. The McAfee entry is now gone. Everything else is running as it should. I will be getting the other programs you mentioned also. Thanks for your help so much. Keep up the great work. :D
Glad to be able to help you get the computer working better again. Here are a few more recommended programs to help keep the computer secure.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Here are three very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D and Adaware SE
a² Free Trojan Remover

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.

Make sure you use proper prevention to keep from having problems occur to your computer in the future.
