I posted originally in the hijack this forum, as I thought it might be something that hijack this could pick up, but was told that nothing unusual was on my log (see here for hijack this thread)

Basically, my machine reboots when it's been left idle (nothing running) for a while, and the error message is "Run a dll as an app has encountered a problem". I have tried searching on Google, but couldn't really figure out from that what the problem is supposed to be.

Norton Antivirus and Systemworks both up-to-date and don't find anything
Ad-aware up-to-date and doesn't find anything
Spybot up-to-date and doesn't find anything
Hijack this log doesn't show anything unusual (see above link for log)

The strange thing is that when I leave it running with eg. Everquest (an MMORPG) running, it can stay up 24hrs or more!

Also, when I try to shut it down, it reboots instead, sometimes it gives the same error message, but not always.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to try, please?

(My DVD player also does not work, although it worked when I first installed it, after a reboot it didn't work any more. I really cannot figure out why!)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!! :)

Reset your Bios.

Not sure what type of computer this is to give you instructions.

For most desktops.

Unplug the system.
Remove the side panel.
Push the Power button to drain the stored power, fan may even spin for a sec…

Touch the metal case of the computer, (for static electricity purposes)

Look for a nickle sized lithium battery, note the way its inserted.

There should be a small spring holding it in place, press it to remove the battery for 30 seconds then replace the battery making sure its facing the same way.

Power the system on. reset your date and time.
Also check the manufacturer of your pc if they have a BIOS update.

Next we are going to reset the Power management of your system by turning it all off.
Right click the desktop
Select Properties > Screen Savers
Turn off screen savers by selecting [none]. Hit > Apply
Select > Power button
Set the power scheme to
Always On
Set all other options to never.
Select Hibernate Tab
UNcheck it
hit Ok > OK
Reboot
Go back and set the system as it was by reversing it to what was before in Power Options and your screen saver as it was..

Check Device manager for any issues, red or yellow marks.
Start > Run
type in
devmgmt.msc
If any red or yellow Exclamation marks or Anti signs appear please tell us.

Update your chipset..
Tell me what type of pc you have and I can look it up for you.

Good luck and I will be waiting for a reply.
