Mostly fixed but Google still is screwy

Thanks for any help guys. This started with a CWS installation yesterday which I think I got most of.

Ran the latest spybot; rebooted. Adaware; rebooted. CWShredder; rebooted. SpySubtract; rebooted.

The only thing left that's messed up is Google. Whenever I search anything, the first page that comes up is all redirected spam links. The second page will have the results that the first page should.

I also switched to firefox and am still having the problem.

Here's the log file. Many thanks for any help.

Hello Brian, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help please follow these instructions in the posted order:

1) Looks like you got the CWS but you still have some problems. The first to tackle it the hijacker: Nonstopsearch.com Hijacker / AdWare.Searcher.b This is what is know as a Winsock Hijacker and we have to use a special tool to fix it. Use the following two links to remove this item:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lspfix.php
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Usi…kers-tut59.html
Make sure you take the time to review the information so you will know what you are doing. This is the .dll you are removing: fltmgr.dll These are the 010 items in your log.
Once the hijacker is gone move to the balance of the instructions.

2) It is hard for me to tell in this log if you have antivirus protection? I see Trend running as a service: Trend Micro Real-time Service but don't see anything in running programs, let me know if you need a free AV.

3) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

4) Brian, I see several Spyware tools in your log, you will need to turn them off when you use HJT as they will block the change we need to make.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/MediaAcc…/bridge-c11.cab
Windupdates Websearch
O16 - DPF: {42F2C9BA-614F-47C0-B3E3-ECFD34EED658} - http://www.ysbweb.com/ist/softwares/v4.0/ysb_regular
ISTbar Websearch

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

(optional trojan check…your option if you wish to be sure)
Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Thank you pskelley! I truly appreciate the help.

The problem is solved and everything seems to be running great.

The only other thing that seems funny is my computer detects and tries to install "UUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" hardward every time I start it. ?? I don't expect you'd have any insight here but I figured I'd throw it out there.

I'm not currently running a fulltime AV program and would love a link to any free program worth its salt.

Hi Brian, I'll take a look at the log in a minute, the hardware issue, I will need more information about it, don't know of any hardware spelled with a bunch of U's? See if you can find out what it is, I will provide a link to general computer problems here in case you want to post here: http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=83

I did locate this like and you would be surprised if you do a Google search for those U's. Look at this thread: http://www.nicolediana.com/lofiversion/index.php/t4599.html You will have to read down as I spotted this:

Tried loosening the screws, but it's still popping out upon booting up.
AND……when I look up the Device Manager it shows the drive listed as
UUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Here are links to free antivirus programs, I would remove anything you are using now to prevent conflicts. I suggest the first one AVG.
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

If you do not have a firewall I will post links to two free ones. I suggest Zone Alarm. Brian, I don't trust the Windows Xp1 firewall, but once you move to SP2 the firewall is much better and you may not need the third party firewall. Do not run two at the same time.
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/comp…reeDownload.jsp
http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm

Once you are clean you may think about SP2, here is information you should review before attempting to download it:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

This: O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file) is leftover from Spyware Doctor. Use HJT like before to remove it if you wish. It is just clutter.

Beside that line your log is clean, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14

I will leave your thread open for a few days in case you have questions.

Thanks…Phil
