this is a random problem and doesnt happen at specific times, it usually starts with the mouse crasing and 7-8 yellow lines appear through the mouse cursor, then my screen turns off and goes in to standby then seconds later the screen turns back on but the computer seems to have completely crashed and the only way to shut down is by keeping the power button pressed, my system is xp with sp2 and this is a HJT log if it is of any help, i have come to the conclusion that it may be something to do with my video/ graphics card which is GeForce 3 Ti200 which i have installed the drivers for from the nVidia website, has anybody got any ideas what to do? This problem is very annoying as it now happens very often, thanks

Thanks again and please help
if you recently updated the drivers and thats when the problem started, then that would be a good starting point. try uninstalling the drivers, then reinstall using the drivers off the install cd that came with the card. also i would vist nvidias website for help/troubleshooting/uninstalling tips etc also make sure (after grounding yourself) with computer turned off that the card is seated properly in the agp slot and if the card has a fan, make sure its spinning, after powering back up. and check the connection of the cable between the monitor and computer……..
hi, i updated the drivers after the problem occured, when i open up my machine how will i know which one is the graphic/video card? thanks
you had this problem before updating the drivers? then mmost likley its not the newer drivers you installed. are you sure you want to check your video card? if so, you do so at your own risk. i or this web site cant be held responsible

power off computer, but leave it plugged in for a ground source. in the back of the computer there should be a power switch, turn that switch off. next check the connection of the cable between the computer and the monitor. is it secure where the cable end connects to the computer. there should be two thumb screws holding the cable to the socket. does it seem secure? that socket sticking out is your video card.
you can actually lossen the thumb screws up and pull the cable connector out from the socket.

i have no idea what kind of case you have. some cases slide off (older cases), and compltely detach, some may pivet open, some may have one side that comes off.

how to id card: you saw the socket the monitor cable plugged into, well with the case open you should now be able to see the rest of the card. the card is sitting in a brownish looking slot (agp slot). carefully press down on the card, pushing it into the slot, seem secure? if you wanted to take it out you would have to most likley remove a single screw that holds the card in place, screwed into the case itself near where the moniter cable plugs in, but on the inside of the case. also on the other end of the card there may be a plastic tab holding it inplace that can be released by gently pushing the tab down. make note if card has a electrical connection on it. this can be unplugged on the card end if needed. if you remove it hold card at edges only and i would immediatly reseat the card back in the slot, after card is reseated in slot, push plastic tab up on to the card, put screw back in. plug any connector back in on card. reconnect monitor cable to socket outside case. turn main switch back on, restart computer. if card has a fan is it spinning? monitor picture looking any better?

shut down computer, turn off main switch in back put case back on computer.
make sure you really want to do this, and feel comfortable doing it.

hi, i opened the case but just to have alook, so is the video/graphics card the one which is the monitor wire seems to plug in to? also there is another fan inside the computer but it isnt attached or even near the graphics card real, it is attached to the largest chip in there (i think thats the motherboard?) and it is spinning. On one time when i had to restart the computer becuase of this problem windows sent an error report and the reply was this:
Error report

The drivers it tells you to download are the ones i did so at first with no effect, is there anything you need to do beofre installing video drivers? i heard you need to uninstall the previous drivers first, is this true? if so how do i do it? Also have you got any more suggestions? Thanks very much for all the help guys it is much appreciated, thanks again
hi,

hi, i opened the case but just to have alook, so is the video/graphics card the one which is the monitor wire seems to plug in to

yes thats it.

also there is another fan inside the computer but it isnt attached or even near the graphics card real, it is attached to the largest chip in there (i think thats the motherboard?) and it is spinning.

the entire square board taking up the case is called the mother or mainboard. that other fan is sitting on top of your cpu or processor.

i heard you need to uninstall the previous drivers first, is this true?

yes a good idea

i havent got any video drivers in the add/remove list unless i install the new ones, is there any other ways to uninstall the previous drivers? thank very muchfor the help
are the nvidia drivers installed now or the standard window dirvers? if you right click on the desktop and click properties> settings>advanced you should see a tab for your video card. there may also be a nvidia looking icon down by the clock if you have the nvidia drivers installed.
hi, i have got nvidia drivers installed but they are old ones from 2001 when i got the computer, i get the nvidia badge next to the clock when i install the new drivers, is there anything else i can do? thanks
