I have been trying to remove mypoisk.com for weeks. It always turns up in my Spy Sweeper program. It quarantines it, but then its always there again. I don't even see anything in my Hijack this log which indicates the mypoisk.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am no genius at this folks - so tell it to me real simple. If you see anthing else in the log which you think I should remove, let me know that too. Thanks a lot for your time and help. Here is my log:

Hello Roxanna, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. You are right the log shows clean. This item is on this list http://www.merijn.org/junk/cws_domains.txt as mypoiskovik.com
and a scan of your address: mypoisk.com also screams CoolWebSearch. One possiblility is that one of your malware tools like Norton has removed it and Spysweeper is picking it up from the quarantine area. Another possibility is that it is System Restore? I would really like to know where SpySweeper says it is located. You may wish to check thoses areas before you run these tools to try to kill it.

1) Download and update if available CWShredder from the following link. Then choose FIX not scan and allow the program to run and remove anything it locates. Please let me know if it found this item in your next post.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popu…WShredder.shtml

2) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread

  7. 3) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when you run it you will know what you are doing. Use the default setting and scan under all three tabs.

    4) Post the information from the CWS scan, the Ewido log and a new HJT this long, make sure to stay in this same thread. Please let me have your feedback.

    5) I wish to say you posted two logs, the first one was correct, the second appears to be in wordwrap or something like that. Please post the HJT log in Notepad, allow HJT to create the log for you then copy and paste it to this thread. Thanks…Phil

Phil, Thanks for getting back to me. I finally figured out it must be in some quarantine somewhere, but be darned if I can find it. I checked the quarantines and nothing. I don't think SpySweeper tells me where it is, but I will double check and let you know in my next post. The system restore is a good possibility, but I think ran ran several programs with system restore off. I've done so many tings lately, I foreget what I did and didn't do. My head spins with it all. Since my first post, I did run CWShredder and it found nothing. Also ran the Trend Micro Penicillian, Adaware and Spybot and. I'm closing on a new house tomorrow so I will follow all the directions and report back to you when I have finished. I probably won't be able to do the downloads and all until Wed. Sorry about the double post of the log. I didn't even realize. Again, many thanks for your time, suggestions and help. Roxanna
Hello Roxanna, Looking at your post I will make a few comments. First, I do not use SpySweeper and know little about it. I would suppose it might identify malware in System Restore. If you did have this infection recently and if it did find it's nasty way into your System Restore files, unless SR were turned off then your computer rebooted then turned back on (purged) they would still be there ready to reinfect you if you had to use SR for some legitimate reason. You say you ran CWShredder, and it found nothing, perhaps this is a good sign. This item is surely a CoolWebSearch infection and if it was there CWShredder should have located it. I wish to be sure you used the newest version and that you updated and chose FIX, might be good to do that again as it is a quick way to be sure no CWS is present. Now as far as the Ewido scan, nothing can be hurt by running this scan, if anything is there it will find and remove it. If not, you will be a happy camper. The CCleaner is one of the better cleaning utilities available, and it will find junk you did not know was there.

Take what ever time you need and post back when you can. Do post a fresh log so I can make sure nothing has changed along with the log from the scan. I will take another moment of your time to make sure you are aware that both Ad-aware SE Personal and Spybot S&D have just released upgrades to their software. This link will take you to the download site and also provide a tutorial for proper configuration: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

Good luck with your new home and safe surfing…Phil
