Hey everyone, I'm extrememly new at this and don't even really know what HijackThis is or does (ie what does 'fix' in the program actually do? Is it a form of virus protection?)

Anyway, here is the scoop. Lately I've beein getting a popup that is in italian which I cannot understand. At the bottom if gives me an option of 'si' and 'no'. If I chose no it says something like unrecognized procedure and then opens my browser to a porn site no less, then creates random shortcut called 'WinMoviePlugin' and 'explorer' all over my computer. It also adds these porn sites (like www.master69.com) to my trusted sites and changes my homepage to the porn site it opened to! Also Norton finds ramdom numerical exe files when this occurs, like 2341.exe. They try to access the net but I always chose to block them. I also have Norton delete them. But when I think all is well, I'll leave my comp for 10 minutes, come back and have that popup there again! And sometimes is popups up more than once. Anyway here is my HijackThis log, PLEASE help me, I've spent 2 weeks with this and it's driving me mad.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Fluxx, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help please follow these instructions in the posted order. Thanks.

1) You have one nasty trojan, some spyware and another item that ends with this: IE4321.exe and you know what a pain that one is. Let's get you cleaned up and you will learn about the process as we go. When we are done if you wish to know more about HijackThis, let me know and I will provide the information.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Check in Add Remove programs for: Parallel Tasking, if it is there uninstall it. If it was NOT there, then Open Task Manager, then the Processes tab. Locate, highlite and end process on this item: C:\Program Files\Parallel Tasking\ptask.exe Here is some information about this trojan if you wish to see it.
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojsmallcj.html

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Olympic] C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Application Data\sgrunt\IE4321.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Parallel Tasking] C:\Program Files\Parallel Tasking\ptask.exe
Added by the TROJ/SMALL-CJ TROJAN
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
Read >>> http://castlecops.com/startuplist-5306.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Application Data\sgrunt\IE4321.exe >>> folder

C:\Program Files\Parallel Tasking\ >>> Folder

ALCMTR.EXE >>> file (you will have to search for this file…I think it is in C:\Windows. Just remove the file.

Locate C:\Windows\Prefetch folder and open it. Delete the contects of the folder (NOT THE FOLDER) if there are many choose Edit then Select all then Delete. You may not be able to remove them all, don't be concerned unless any have the name of the items we need to remove. HJT has stopped the bad ones from running so we can remove them. Here is some information about the Prefetch for you:
http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6270-5165773.html
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1683520,00.asp

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Hey, thanx for your reply, but I should tell you that I continued looking for a solution in the meantime. I came across a program called ETRemover that someone recommended I try. Problem was that unsuspectingly I had fix or delete files checked, and this found 3 registry files I beleive, that it deleted.

The good news is that the stupid popup is gone, however it seems my computer is running a bit slower. I followed your steps anyway and the only thing I came across that was still there was the actual Parallel Tracking folder and ALCMTR.EXE I deleted them. However there are 2 files still in my Windows folder with the exact same icon as ALCMTR.EXE, they are ALCFDRTM and ALCWZRD.

I ran the free online scan. I didn't see the 'clean or fix' option you mentioned. It only had 'Scan all running processes' and 'Use heuristics'.
It detected the following files.

C:\Documens and Settings\Daniel\Cookies\[removed][1].txt
C:\Documens and Settings\Daniel\Cookies\[removed][2].txt
C:\Documens and Settings\Daniel\Cookies\daniel@advertising[1].txt

I ran CCleaner and rebooted, it took a little longer to shut down and it seems to still be running slow. It really drags when I attempt to open 'My Computer' or any folders. But anyway ehre is my new Hijackthis Log

OK Daniel, I will attempt to address your feedback prior to looking at the new log.

I came across a program called ETRemover that someone recommended I try

I understand your desire to clean that junk off of your computer and some folks have been using that tool with some success. Our issue is that we do not know what it removed and I am not aware if it backs up what it does in the event of an error? So if there is an issue we do not know what caused it. One thing you can count on is if you properly position your HJT you will have backups if you need them.

However there are 2 files still in my Windows folder with the exact same icon as ALCMTR.EXE, they are ALCFDRTM and ALCWZRD.

Indeed, that is your RealTek High Definition audio driver, please view this information as I see if all is functioning well with it you do have an option to disable it, this would be your call: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-5285.html
Careful of the spelling as they do look a little alike. The file we removed was explained in the link I provided in my last post. That is why I carefully highlited in red the file to remove so as not to interfere with the RealTek driver.

I ran the free online scan. I didn't see the 'clean or fix' option you mentioned. It only had 'Scan all running processes' and 'Use heuristics'.
It detected the following files.

The option, if it locates any malware is to use the free version of a2 to clean the malware. What you are looking at are cookies that should be removed on a regular basis with Ad-aware/Spybot. That is just a few as they accumulate quickly. CCleaner may have removed those a little later in the process, I would suggest you navigate to that folder: C:\Documens and Settings\Daniel\Cookies\[removed][1].txt and delete them if they are there. You do need some cookies for secure banking sites, etc. I personally use the override function in Internet Explorer and basically allow no cookies other than those. While most cookies are benign, I do not believe they should be able to track anything I do but you may have personal preferences. If you require more information a seach for cookies in Google will supply plenty.

It really drags when I attempt to open 'My Computer' or any folders. But anyway ehre is my new Hijackthis Log

Once you are clean, after you have reset a clean System Restore point buy turning it off then reboot and turn it back on, I suggest a good maintenance. Scan Disk & Defrag, I also suggest these tools be run in Safe Mode. If you need any information about how to run these tools, please let me know.
Daniel, your log is clean and here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
