Was using my computer a few days ago and it suddenly went dead, as if the plug was pulled out of the wall. No luck at all restarting – no life anywhere, even the strange little emblem on the monitor didn't come on. My son in law is a techie and after looking at it felt it was the power supply. Got one and the fan came on and the CD drive, but that was all. Due to the nature of the power supply unit, there were several possible ways of connecting, but nothing worked. He then put the hard drive in his computer and again nothing. It would seem the hard drive is shot. Questions: – just to be sure, is there something we may have overlooked? – is there an alternative data recovery souce at all to the places that charge an arm and a leg? Thanks.
Have you put another/different hdd in your comp to see if it will try to boot? First need to make sure your power problem is solved. There are several data recovery app's, one of which "Spinrite" I am familiar with and it repairs/recovers just is a little on the slow side.
