Hi Again. Have added that. All seems to be running Ok except for the blooming adverts. I'm not sure if I'm describing them properly or using the right term. These pages are not 'spawned?" from another Internet Explorer window that is open or from a page I'm visiting. I'm fairly sure that those type of pop ups are being blocked already by the Google tool bar. Every now and then I get the 'pop' sound to say that a window was bloked. The Ads I'm getting are in a window that just opens spontaniously when I don't even have a browser running. It opens in a window that looks like an IE window but it just has a plain frame around it. if I press F11 then I get a tool bar but not with the buttons and menu that I get with IE. I'm not sure how else to describe it. Otherwise all seems Ok day to day now. Umm… other problems: cleanmgr just crashes and sends an error report.
Run Ad-Aware again. Be sue to update, a new update was just released.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Hi, Thanks again. I'll post a HJT log in morning when I re- boot. Ad Aware didn't find anything. I've just realised that the ads only come when AOL is running and I think AOL is some form of Internet Explorer or derivative. I'm not sure though.
Hi,

Been trying it out for a few dys.

All seems to be running ok but ….

Still getting the adverts. I'm fairy sure I'm calling them the wrong thing when i call them pop-ups. I can see and hear when the pop-ups are blocked. These are usually as I surf around.

The ads I keep getting appear randomly, possibly just while aol is running. . . but opens in what seems to be an Internet Explorer window.

If this hasn't fixed the problem then:

Lets look at what's in the startup.

click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key.
look in the Startup. List everything there and point out which ones have a check next to it.
Here's the HJT log.

All seems ok except for that window coming up.

Is there an easy way of copying the start up processes?

I don't use AOL, but it could be a setting in AOL that you can change.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
