Hi,

Please help.

I've run anti virus, anti spy and trojan programs etc but all to no avail.

Please put me out of my misery!

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"


Try CCLeaner
To use it:
  • Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and install.
  • Open CCleaner.
  • Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
  • Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
  • Hit the button that says Run CCleaner
  • Reboot to remove index.dat files.



Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Hi,

I haven't used the computer much yet so I can't say how it's running really.

I do get a recuring error: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I have been getting it for about a week or so. everytime I send or close the error report window the desktop clears and then refreshes, but about 3 seconds later the message reappears.

I've just opened and closed internet explorer and got an error message for that to. Opened and cloesd it again and got another error message. No Casino pop-ups yet …. but they were fairly random before.

Also, I don't have an Omega Drive on this computer.

Since the first log I posted I've tried various ant- Virus/spy/popup etc.

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

desktop.txt is just a text file I saved.

I've had lots of problems with explorer error messages. I've had to go back to a previous restore point a few times and re run HJT.

All seems to be ok at present.

The Mcafee personal firewall was removed ages ago because it kept givein the blue wall of death. I notice that it's still on the log.

The final Iomega entry doesn't seem to want to be fixed either.

I ran CCleaner but got the explorer problem afterwards. So I restored to before that and just did the other steps.

Hi Again,

Booted up again this morning and all seems fine so far!

The error message was for WINDOWS EXPLORER. I'd get the message saying it needed to close and send a report. If I sent or ignored, The desctop icons and bottom bar would disapear leaving just the background, refresh with all the icons and give the same message. If I just pulled the message to the edge of the screen ( it was 'always on top' ) Everything appeared to be working fine.

To get rid of it I had to go back a few days worth of restores. It would only come back after 2,3 or 4 re-boots. IT's NOT doing that at the moment.

I've not had the casino pop-ups as yet. ( But they seem completely Random ) Ive started IE a few times which normally brings up an IE window with the Casino/Horascope/whatever ad page.

I usually use fire fox, but still they pop up randomly.

Everything seems good at the moment. Thank You.

Ok, spoke too soon! LOL. Casino pop up ad just came up! sigh.

Hi, Yes I have Google tool bar and pop ups are blocked. The pop-ups ( I'm not sure that that is the right term ) do not come up as I'm visiting sites etc. ( well at least they do but are blocked as far as I'm aware!) The AD's I get just open a new IE window at random. I don't even have Internet Explorer running most of the time they pop up because I prefer Firefox. It now seems to be opening in a minimised window so often I don't even realise it's there until I notice the extra application on the task bar. Thanks, Paul

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Hi,

Here is my latest log.

I've still been getting the spurious Internet Explorer windows opening with mainly casino Ads.

Otherwise it seems to be running well and no Windows Explorer error messages . ( laughing quietly to myself as a casino IE window poped up as I type.

I'll end this post now, close everything to as it was when I ran HJT but leave the casion ad running. I'll post a copy on the new log. Maybe that might help.
