Hello kurty28, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. You do have issues that need to be addressed. First you need to do a few things for me to expedite the repair.

1) You are running Selective Startup in MSCONFIG. I need to see everything in there. You can enable all, then run HJT and make a new log, then go back to Selective Startup without rebooting if you wish, as long as you post a log with everything showing,

2) Your HJT.exe is outdated. You can update from within the software link this: Open HJT > Open the Misc Tools section > Scroll to Check for update online > Follow instructions. Please make sure to update before you post the next log. The current version is 1.99.1. If you need to download go here:

3) Once you post the new log I will be notified and respond with directions as soon as possible.

I would also look at C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe, versions before 6.0 contained adware and they cleaned up their act. If your version is before 6.0 I would uninstall it and update to 6.0 if you wish to run it.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) Microsoft AntiSpyware we will need to turn this program off as it will block the fix we must make with HijackThis, here are instructions:
To disable the program, follow the instructions below:
a.) Right click on the Microsoft Antispyware tray icon (a little red and yellow circle looking thing)
b.) Click on Security Agents Status (Enabled)
c.) Click on Disable Real-time Protection.

3) Open Task Manager then the Processes Tab. Locate, highlite and end process on this item: Syscm.exe

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

I was able to complete everything you recommended expect for a couple things. I was not able to locate the following:

C:\WINNT\system32\stcloader.exe >>> file

C:\WINNT\system32\regsvc32.exe >>> file

C:\Program Files\Free-Popup-Killer\ >>> folder

Also, the Prefetch folder was not under the C:\Windows directory, I did find it under the C:\WINNT directory. I was not sure if that is a big deal or not, but I did not clear the contets out of here yet.

OK kurty28, Looks like you got them all. :D Somethings seem to go away after you remove them with HJT as it appears to be in this case. You are an upgrade from another operating system, that is why the folders are a little different. I can say that CCleaner also cleans the Prefetch but I am not sure it gets it all. Read the information and you will understand the Prefetch folder which you did not have until you upgraded to Xp. Windows puts everything back you remove but the first startup is usually a little slow until Prefetch is repopulated. The item that is installed by Verizon, you can leave it, discuss it with Verizon, or let me know and I will give you removal instructions. If you have issues with popups, this is the best popup stopper I have found and it is free: http://toolbar.google.com/ My suggestion is to download just the basic toolbar and not all of the add ons that are available. The basic toolbar does the job and the rest of the stuff just uses up your resources. I will leave the thread open for a couple of days in case you have questions.
