The Spybot & Adaware programs identify that there is a hijack attempt going on in my computer and try to delete the offending entries but they keep coming back. I don't know what to delete manually so I would be very grateful if anyone with some expertise could please help me out…I'm completely frustrated :rant2: Here's my Hijackthis log:

Welcome to the forum.

You have several infection, we'll get them one at a time.

First, you have a Peper infection.

1. Download Newuninst.exe.
2. Run it with an active internet connection (you must be online)
3. Reboot to finish removing the entries it found.
4. Run the tool a second time (with an active internet connection).
5. Reboot to finish removing the entries it found.

The second tool which does not require Internet Access to Clean is:
1. Please Download PeperFix.exe,
2. Start the tool and click Find and Fix
3. Reboot to finish removing what it found.
4. Run the tool a second time
5. Reboot to finish removing the entries.

Make sure you have run up-to-date Spybot and AdAware scans.

Links below show how:

http://russelltexas.com/malware/spybot13/spybot13.htm
http://russelltexas.com/malware/adawarese/adawarese.htm

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log, MrC
Thank you so much for replying to my post. I've followed your instructions and seem to have eliminated the most bothersome of the popups. However, when I run Adaware it still identifies 2 registry entry problems which seem to be infections. Originally Adaware
identified 3 registry entries, so I do believe we got rid of one of the main infections. I have run both Newuninst.exe & PeperFix.exe repeatedly and reboot every time. Here's my current HJT log. Again thanks for all of your time! :)

Here's the fix:

Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:
Network Security Service (NSS)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

2. Reboot into Safe Mode

3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for:

addcu.exe
stisvsq.exe
svshost.exe
msqdevl.exe
lssas.exe
mservice.exe
ipyc32.exe

If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.

4. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

C:\WINDOWS\msqdevl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\lssas.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mservice.exe
iau.exe <—search for this one

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

6. Run AboutBuster . This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. It will ask to scan the system again, let it. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

7. Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

8. Double click on the cwsserviceremove and when asked to merge say yes.

9. Run CW-Shredder - Hit the FIX button - let it run and fix what it finds.

10. Reboot into normal mode.

11. Download and run this online virus scan:<—Important
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Make sure you check "AutoClean"

12. Reboot and post a fresh HJT log back here by using the add reply button below, and lets see how we did, MrC
Ok, I've been carefully following your instructions word by word, however there have been some snags. The first one has been where I go into Control Panel and get into the Folder Options. I am able to successfully uncheck the folders you have described but the "Apply to all folders" option is blanked out and I can't click on it. There is a "Reset all Folders" option next to it but I don't want to click on it because I don't know what it will do. The second snag has been when I am in SafeMode and get into Task Manager, the only file that is on the list you provided me is "Issas.exe" and when I click "end process" I get a message saying that it is a critical system file and I will not be allowed to shut it down or end the process. Seeing these two discrepancies I felt that it was best to contact you before proceeding any further. Hopefully it's something simple that I am missing, thanks!
Look at the files carefully. Watch the spelling!!

C:\WINDOWS\lssas.exe<—bad - malware
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe<—good - Windows file

Just hit the 'Apply' button on the right bottom of the window.

Here's a better How to

HowToShowHiddenFiles - <—enable this

If you don't succeed just skip this step for now.

There's always the 'restore defaults' button that will put everything back to the way it was.

Good Luck, MrC
Sorry about the confusion with the Isass.exe and Issas.exe files, I guess "I is the ass" in that  …ok never mind. I'm done with all of the steps and have deleted a whole carload of malware and here are my results logs with HijackThis and AboutBuster:

Well Done!

To clean up a bit….

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:
