Q: False alarm - viruses detected in Panda Antivirus files (Win95:Matyas and Win32:Kuang2 in PAV.SIG mainly)?!

A: This is a known problem. Let´s try to explain what´s going on:

Every virus can be identified, because it contains some unique signatures. Antiviral programs have their own database of that signatures. We call this database the "virus definition file".
When an antiviral program scans a file for viruses, it compares all the signatures (of all viruses) in the database with the signatures in that file. If the signatures match (they are the same), the file is marked as infected. For an antivirus program, it is important to hide this database of signatures somehow - e.g. by encrypting it. Panda Antivirus does not encrypt its virus database - the signatures inside are clearly "visible" to other antiviral programs, so they detect this file as infected (but there is actually no virus inside - only the signatures are the same).
If it's still there, lets try this:

Download the trial version of

TDS-3
Install it, but do not launch it yet

Update it here right click, select "save as"

Save it to the directory where you installed TDS-3, overwriting the previous radius.td3.

Then launch TDS-3. in the top bar of tds window click system testing> full system scan.
detections will appear in the lower pane of tds window. after the scan is finished ( it'll take a while )
right click the list> select save as txt. save it and post the contents of the scandump.txt here.

After posting the scandump go ahead and right click the list of detections again. this time select delete!
Only delete those with positive identification.
hey man, i think we have it! here is the scandump text: can Control Dumped @ 12.27.42 27-05-05 Positive identification: Riskware.Tool.KillApp.b File: c:\programmi\creative\sbaudigy2zs\program\wdm\common\killapps.exe Positive identification: Riskware.Tool.KillApp.b File: c:\windows\system32\killapps.exe i've done some research on the web, and these MIGHT have something to do with it. what bugs me is that i did the same full scan with the same antivirus program a few days ago but nothing! well, i'm going to delete the exes and restart. then i'll get back with the news ale
mmm… i restarted my computer and went to the control panel>system folder. tried to access the folder but couldn't with the mouse. all folders before system folder (they are organized alphabetically) were selected, and therefore i was in fact trying to open all 32 folders at the same time! had to use caps to de-select all folders and get to "system folder". then mouse would click and of couse the spacdude is still there!
yes,

it was the tsd-3 log

here is the fresh hjt log:

So is it gone?

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot

If that doesn't kill the 01 then do this:

Please download hoster from the link below.

http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

Unzip Hoster.zip
Open Hoster.exe.

Then click on "Restore Original Hosts"

Close program when complete.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
done, and here is the new hjt log:

as usual, my pc feels fine, is much faster in booting (THANKS!)…
…but the spacdude is still there…
…and now on opening the browser all the page is blank ("couldn't show/load…") except for the username and password windows, plus as i enter my mailbox hotmail usually displays a very big annoying pop-up. well, it's there and it's not: a big WHITE/BLANK window/pop-up has replaced the previous pop-up

oh, no problem accessing the "system" folder this time
ok LDTate,

all back to normal with hotmail. the page loads, and the pop-up too.
i guess you knew this all along, eh?

i know this is totally unsolicited but here is a fresh hjt log, post browser un-loading problems:

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
again, done all you told me. spac is still there… now, i know you might want to kill me but… now i can be VERY precise as to where this writing + pic are located. i have this horrible feeling that by using the word "folder" i might have misled you. and that my ignorance of my pc has done the rest. as i right-clicked on "my computer" > propertis, THAT'S exactly where this sob is! upper side you get: sysetm - microsoft windows xp etc. etc. BUT below this is a "produced by", and THERE is the leaf and the writing. underneath it to the right is a "more info" tab. and THAT'S where the "ERROR: Water detected in the BIOS. Something wonderful has happened, your computer is alive……" is located. now, wanna kill me? please understand, i'm not anglo-saxon. and i'm not THAT much into pcs…

now, wanna kill me?:

rofl:

please understand, i'm not anglo-saxon. and i'm not THAT much into pcs

Not a problem all. I'll hang in there as long as you will. There has to be a Anti-Virus program that will kill this thing.

I'll be back with a post soon. I need to check to see if anyone has seen this before.

Hang in there.
Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.
