Hi Agent 0008! I'm 'KotaGuy. Welcome to TomCoyote!

If you still require assistance, could you please post a new HijackThis log. It has been a few days since you've posted and something might have changed since then.

Before you do… I would like you to do some scans. Please do scans at Panda ActiveScan and TrendMicro HouseCall. Set them to autofix anything they find. Reboot between each scan.

Next, download and install Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. Visit this page for proper configuration of both programs. Run and scan with both, letting them fix whatever they find. Remember to reboot between each scan.

After that, post the new HijackThis log.

Thanks!
Well things have been turned upside down, some trojans were found on the computer and some how in the process of tinkering The desk top was switched and I can't get it back but have been able to port over my My Document files and other settings to make it function as near to normal as possible.

I think when I get the opertunity I'll be reformating. In the mean time here's the current Hi Jack log:

Thanks for posting the new log.

No need to reformat… we can fix this for ya :)

Download and install CCleaner. Don't run it yet.

Print this out for reference during the fix.

Make sure no files are hidden. To do this:

1. Click Start.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
7. Click Yes to confirm.

Thanks for posting the new log.

A note about Wild Tangent… they have had a very shady past when it comes to their software. Personally, I recommend you uninstall their software through Add/Remove Programs. Choice is yours though.

Run and scan with HijackThis. With all other browsers and windows closed, place a check beside the following and Fix:

O4 - Global Startup: Compaq Connections.lnk = C:\Program Files\Compaq Connections\1940576\Program\BackWeb-1940576.exe

Boot into Safe Mode. Search for and delete C:\Program Files\Compaq Connections\1940576\Program\BackWeb-1940576.exe

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Reboot Windows normally and post a new HijackThis log please.

Thanks!
No Thank You, I wish I knew how to do this myself and could be offering help to others.

Wild Tangent comesi n with AOL instant Messenger, I wish I could remove it but my daughter would have a fit.

Hehe… we don't need your daughter throwing fits :P

Good Work Your log is CLEAN!!

How is your computer running? Any of the previous symptoms?
It seems to be running fine, the problem I first ran into was the task manager wouldn't come up when hitting ctrl+alt+delete, I would get a message saying the adminstrator has disable the task manager. Another problem I ran into which I feel stupid for doing was that I tired to rename the folder running the desk top, I changed it to her name which is what I thought it should have been and when I rebooted it created a new Folder with her name and some links are still attached to the original folder but I have been able to get the important ones linked to her folder. Thanks a million for all of the help, my only options without your asstance is to reformat. :D Again thank you so much. Agent :) :wavey:
Glad I was able to help!

So Task Manager is ok now then?

I'm not too sure how to go about fixing your folder problem, never come across that situation before. If I find anything out about it, I'll PM you and let you know :)

Some suggestions….

Now that your computer is clean, it would be a good time to reset your System Restore Point. This will ensure a nice clean backup to fall upon if you ever need it. To do this:

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"

Reboot your computer, follow the steps above, this time unchecking the "Turn off System Restore" and reboot.

Along with Ad-Aware and Spybot, you might also want to look into installing SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-SPYAD. You can grab them from the links in my sig. The programs are free and can be updated, so please remember to do so. Installing these will go a long way in preventing reinfection.

I never saw any indication of a Firewall installed. I'm sure you've heard of ZoneAlarm

Check out the links in my sig named How'd I get Infected and Understanding Spyware as well, some good information for you :)

Other than that, remember to update Windows frequently, update your protection programs, scan often and…
