Thanks for posting the new log. Can you let me know about this file:

C:\NTTV\NTTV.EXE

Search for it, right click on it, choose Properties. Let me know what it says for Vendor info in the Version tab.

Thanks!
Thank you for your response. That file is a TV Card program. In my office I have a Closed Circuit TV Camera at the entrance door. Instead of having a monitor, we just installed a TV Card on the computer so that we can see on screen who's at the door. We purchased that TV Card (Flyvideo) several years ago, when we still ran Win98. The program was not WinXP compatible, so when we purchased new systems with WinXP, I transferred the card, but the old program wouldn't work. I then went to their site (www.digit-life.com) and downloaded the program for Windows NT, which works on WinXP (hence NTTV). I checked for the vendor information as you wrote, but those fields are blank. The only thing I found was Brin Lyaw under comments. It also mentions LR25 Application under Internal Name. Hope this helps. Simmick
OK… thanks… just haven't come across that entry before.

Download and install CCleaner. Don't run it yet.

Run and scan with HijackThis. With all other browsers and windows closed, place a check besdie the following and fix:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {008DB894-99ED-445D-8547-0E7C9808898D} - C:\WINDOWS\mslagent\4b_1,0,1,2_mslagent.dll (file missing)

Browse to your C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch folder. Delete all files in the folder, do not delete the folder itself. Empty your Recycle Bin. Run CCleaner.

Boot Windows normally and post a new HijackThis log please.
Thank you very much for your help. I followed your instructions, and am posting a new HijackThis Log:

Hope my computer is clean now… :wavey:
Thanks a lot. Regarding symptoms, I had symptoms like browser being rediverted in the past. I then installed AdAware and other software to clean it. I was running AdAware every day, and it kept on finding critical elements. I ran AdAware this morning, and I once again receive 2 critical elements. They are tracking cookies. I am posting those file names right here: Vendor:Tracking Cookie Category:Data Miner Object Type:IECache Entry Size:389 Bytes Location:C:\…\Simche\Cookies\simche@pro-market[2].txt Last Activity:29-05-2005 13:32:42 Risk Level:Low TAC index:3 Comment:Hits:15 Description:This cookie is known to collect information that may be used either for targeted advertising, or tracking users across a particular website, such as page views or ad click-thrus. I ran AdAware yesterday, right after running Hijack This (the log of which I posted yesterday) and Ccleaner as per the instructions you sent me. I then had 2 critical elements which I deleted, assuming these may be remnants that were lying low on my system. But today I ran Ad Aware again, and the program once again found such files, so how did they get there? Maybe those files aren't really so harmfull, and may be neglected? I understand they are tracking cookies, but are they functional? They are just .TXT files, so I wonder how they worked? So in short, should I worry or not? Thanks, Simmick
Cookies, for the most part, aren't "dangerous" so to speak. Pretty much any site you visit nowadays plants a cookie on your machine. I would'nt worry about them too much. Just have Ad-Aware or Spybot clean them up each time you do your scans. Anything else?
Hi: Well I guess that's it. Thanks a million for your help! :D The computer behaves fine so I'll just clean those cookies from time to time. Best Regards Simmick :wavey:
Good to hear! Glad I was able to help.

Now you get my All Clean speech! :D

To clean up any remnants that may have been left behind, I suggest doing a couple online virus scans. A couple good ones are Panda ActiveScan and TrendMicro HouseCall. Let them fix anything they find. Reboot between each scan.

If you don't have them, download Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D;. Visit this page for proper configuration of Spybot and Ad-Aware. Run and scan with both, letting them fix whatever they find. Remember to reboot between each scan.

Now that your computer is clean, its a good time to reset your System Restore point. This will ensure a clean backup to fall upon if you ever need it. To do this:
  • Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
Reboot your computer, follow the steps above, this time unchecking the "Turn off System Restore" and reboot.

I recommend downloading and installing SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-SPYAD as well. You can get them from the links in my sig. The programs are free and can be updated… so please do so. Installing these will go a long way in preventing reinfection.

If you don't have one, I recommend installing a Firewall. I'm sure you've heard of ZoneAlarm.

Check out the links in my sig named How'd I get Infected and Understanding Spyware as well, some good information for you.

Other than that, remember to update Windows frequently, update your protection programs, scan often and…
