I am having trouble with adblaster2, which turns into searchfeed.com. This pops up whether I'm on the internet or not.
ad-aware finds the registry values (9 total) and deletes them, but they keep re-appearing. below is my hjt log:

Hello eingram, Welcome to TomCoyote. Your version of HijackThis is outdated. Please update from within the software like this: Open HJT > Open the Misc Tools section > Scroll to Check for update online > Follow instructions.
Or you can download here: http://www.malwareremoval.com/downloads.html
If you still need help post a new log with Version 1.99.1 and I will take a look at it.

Hello eingram and thanks for this information. I would also like to mention that your second log was posted poorly, not single spaced like the first. It is much harder for us to work with logs like the second one. Will you post your logs in the single spaced notepad format at all times please, Thanks.

I have added some software since I first posted.

It is very hard for me to review this log with my scanners so I will need to remove what I see manually and ask that you post a new single spaced log for review.

1) I am seeing two antivirus products, Panda and Trend Micro running at the same time? If this is the case you need to select one and either turn the other one completely off or uninstall it. Conflicts between the two will leave you less protected than if you run one good program and maintain it properly.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Wish to be sure this is valid: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfsyncsv.exe I show is as: MFSYNCSV.EXE is the service used by "MirrorFolder" (www.techsoftpl.com) for mirroring folders or entire drives. Let me know this is correct.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

What tool did you use against AdBlaster? It did a good job, just left a little residue behind.

(this is optional, I have no reason to believe a trojan is present, if you want a check run it, if not save the link in case you need it, it is a long scan)

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

before I pst new hjt, a couple of things. 1. mfsynscv.exe is indeed Mirror Folder. I have two identical seagate 80 gb drives and I mirror my C: drive onto the other. I use mirror folder because it is excellent and I can't figure out how to configure PATA Raid. I can't afford SATA drives so this is next best. 2. what I used against adblaster was a tool called "What process". Thats ow I found out which dll's were involved. then I went into safe mode and used Ad-Aware (it only deleted the registry entries) then I manually deleted the ngpw36.exe and ngpw33.dll (note these had originally been ….32, but after I tried to use Ad-Aware, they mutated to 33 then to 36). 3. When I look at my HJT log in notepad, it is single spaced. The only thing I can think of is that I use the word wrap feature of notepad to keep everything on screen (20" Princeton set at 1280x1024). Maybe I should turn off word wrap before I post here. 4. I only use Trend Micro for AV, I am only running the truprevent portion of Panda because it blocks spyware. It is not the full AV product. I prefer Panda, but WinXP SP2 cannot tell if Panda's def's are current ,so it (Security advisor)kept bugging me, so I switched to Trend micro.

Thanks eingram for the information :) I do appreciate it. You must have used this product: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml and we do use it for certain infections. I will store that information in case I need it to help someone else. I am not sure about the problem with the HJT log, I do know that if you choose "Do a system scan and save a logfile" it will save it to Notepad. Then just copy/paste it to the thread. As far as SP2, I note that it has no problem with McAfee but when I suggest free AVG to folks who for one reason or another need a free AV, it has the same issue as with your Panda? Do you think Microsoft is pushing certain products?? As far as your log goes, I believe you are clean but I would be glad to take a final look and then offer some links to advice by some greats in the malware removal field. Thanks again…Phil

First I wish to thank you very much. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
The program I used to identify the bad process was Uretopia's "What Process?"
it simply links to their website and all the users post what the process is if they know. There are a lot of ads on the site, but the program itself is clean and there are no popups on the site, I will store your link info for future ref.
It could be that Panda is more secure from Windows security holes and that's why Win can't read.
Or microsoft may not consider Panda a major player and just not bother with it.
Or you could be right and MS is pushing certain products. Not that they need any under the table money, but when greed overtakes reason departs.
