Howdy all,

Found this great forum via Google - I'd certainly appreciate your help. I've had an issue with a trojan horse called Downloader.Small.26.AJ and a nasty pi[1].exe file that keeps showing up in my IE temp files.

Here's my HJ log:

I've tried AdAware, SpyBot & Spyware Doctor to no avail and when my free AVG runs, it finds these files nearly daily.

Thank you!!!!!
Hello virtuallin, Welcome to TomCoyote forum, if you still need help please follow these directions.

1) Spyware Doctor may try to block the changes we need to make with HJT. You may wish to turn it off until you are done with HJT.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) This item: C:\WINDOWS\system32\foncup.exe does not identify with Google, we call that a random named trojan. If you know what this is pass over it in the fix and give me that information. Open Task Manager then under the Processes tab, highlite and end process on any instances of this item that are running, foncup.exe.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\foncup.exe >>> file

Let's check for trojans that may be hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

PSKelley - You are a GOD! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

You have saved me from a miserable night of reformatting and I can't thank you enough!

I would love to offer a testimonial for your site, if you like - and I'll certainly be doing an article in my next newsletter so all of my clients know where they can go to get expert, professional help. You guys are remarkable!

Hi again virtuallin, I am so glad to hear everything went well. Makes up for the many we work hard on and never hear back from the member after our first post. Your log looks great and great job  following those instructions. Let's give you a little information: http://windowssecrets.com/050127/#story1 Now let me say that malware programs I use on my computers are the two that you run, Ad-aware and Spybot S&D, which complement each other and will do a great job if you keep them updated and run them on a scheduled, regular basis, and three others which work to keep the stuff off and what they have in common with the first two is the fact they are freeware. Here are those products including the first two along with excellant tutorials to maximize their performance:

Spybot

Ad-aware

And since you have a clean computer, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
