Help... Spyware I Can't Seem To Get Rid Of

Clicked a bad link and got hit with tons of spyware a few days ago. Ran Adaware and Norton in safe mode but there were a few they couldn't remove. Ran HiJack, removed everything I knew was harmful, and found the spyware remained.

I think it's mainly this "ipassist.biz" stuff. It highlights certain words on an ie page (like "you" "sun" "spyware" "open" etc) and overrides them with links to an annoying search agent. If I have an ie window open, every few mins a popup appears telling me to click on this "anti-spyware anti-virus" link.

Here's my log:

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. This looks extremely familiar to some malware I got hit with in November, which I never did find a way to kill (I formatted shortly thereafter).

I've never been here before, but I really appreciate that you guys are out here helping people for free. I have a backup of everything I deleted (mostly hosts and registry keys that altered my homepage [one of which constantly recreates itself]) if for some reason you want to see it.
Hi and welcome to the forum. :D

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?…7fd6b3ff02edc90

REBOOT

Step #2

Please download and run Spybot & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Spybot & Adaware Tutorial

REBOOT

Step # 3

Then do 2 virus scans here >>>

Trend Micro

Panda

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
Done. If you want to know the details of the results, just ask.

But I couldn't do the trend micro scan. The scan never began after I clicked "go", and after a time I got a "cannot find server" error.

Here's my new log:

This seems to have worked… my ie page looks, at first glance, just like it did before the spyware hit. Thanks a ton.

Here's my new log, created after the reboot in normal mode, in case this is deceiving:

Again, thanks a lot for helping me sort through this, and especially thanks for responding so quickly.
So far so good… ie is running a lot more smoothly. Any tips for immunizing my system from spyware like this? I'm gunna start using Spybot's protection again (don't know why I stopped)… anything else I could do? Thanks again.
If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
