Hey gurus:

My machine picked up some nasty lock up, temporary lock up, Mcafee corruption and Blue Screen of Death errors. I'm suspecting I picked up something playful somewhere.

Whaddya think? Notice anything unusual here?

=================
I have to use the task monitor to stop the Mcafee programs, otherwise the system exhibits even more instability. With Mcafee running, the computer will develop a fatal error within 10 to 15 minutes of use.

Any insights?
Hi, I looked over you log and I see a few changes I would make, but nothing that would have any effect on your issue. Why don't you take this problem to McAfee and see what they say. I also run VSO and I have never experienced this type of issue. Might call for a complete uninstall and reinstall but I would let the McAfee technicians call it.

If you want the stuff I see:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(do you want these in your "Trusted Zones", if so leave them)
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.mcafee.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.bankofamerica.com

3) Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

I see nothing that should be causing your issue with McAfee. I will ask if any of those programs to kill popup or erase history could have been installed around the time the issue started? If that is possible then remove the item a see if the issue clears up. The other option would be to uninstall and reinstall to see if something corrupted in the download. I run McAfee on three computers myself and have had to do that a couple of times over the last year year or so. As I said earlier, I would chat with a online tech to see what they say.

If you want to take a deeper look at see if a trojan is hiding and not shown in HJT, here is a good free scan: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Have it remove anything it should locate.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

I would be very intrested in the results of the security test and the outcome of the McAfee issues if you would be willing to let me know. I might help others with the same issue. I will leave this thread open for a week for your feedback or to help with any questions that may come up.
