I must have downloaded something I wasn't supposed to, as I keep getting pop-ups where my IE Explorer used to always block them on medium settings. Now some are creeping through, plus the computer has bogged down.

I've run in the last two days Ad-aware, SpyBot S&D, CWShredder, a-squared, I have SpyWareBlaster on with everything enabled, I currently subscribe to AVG Antivirus 7.0. Ad-Aware found 70 objects, most trackers, SpyBot found its normal 3-5 files, but was able to fix all of them, CWShredder says that I do not have the CoolWeb virus (or whatever its called). A-Squared says I am good, and again, I have SpywareBlaster enabled.

AVG started throwing files in the Vault the other day, one after another. The common name was Duad.exe and Wupdt.exe (among others, but these show up more than once). They are supposedly in the Vault, but still getting pop ups.

Any help you can give is appreciated!! What can I do next? Thanks

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"



Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.


Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.



Search for and delete these folders if listed:
C:\Program Files\CxtPls


Search for and delete these files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dbmcoina.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ds1bse32.exe


Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.





Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.


Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Ok, followed all instructions.

Then I rebooted and surfed the net a bit to check for pop-ups–did not get any.

Regarding PC behavior, it had def. been very slow at times and then i had the added pop up problem. it doesn't seem MUCH faster, or at least hard to tell so far.

Here is the new log……..what next?

link doesn't work right now. I went to the site and found it manually, it the file will not download. I will check back in a day or so. Thanks again for your help

Try this one then.

To use it:
  • Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and install.
  • Open CCleaner.
  • Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
  • Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
  • Hit the button that says Run CCleaner
  • Reboot to remove index.dat files.
