Hi,
Mi hat goes off to ya.
Recently got hijacked by Derbiz. I had never heard of Hijack before this.
I keep my PC relatively safe (I thought) but stupidly opened a zipped folder from a file sharing site.
I have downloaded, and used,
Spybot S&D
SpywareBlaster
Microsoft Antispy (Beta)
And of course just downloaded HijackThis.

I can temorarily disable the Derbiz nonsense, but it returns after re-boot.
I am not very techie. I have run a Hijack scan, but it means nothing to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA :)

Sorry to post this here, done so only in desperation. My posts are acknowledged but ignored (blocked??) The envelope icon on my posts shows a black spot (seal?). I have tried to send message & e-mail to admin/owners to ask why, but am blocked from doing so. I am doing something VERY wrong ?? tia Llama-man
Hello Llama Man and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

The dot on the folder is an indication of a thread that you have replied in. As you were the topic starter, you will have the dot. I will merge all three of your topics into this thread after replying to you here. Please keep all follow up replies in this thread.

Step 1
We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Click on Tools, Settings.
  • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
  • Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
  • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
You have Spybot S&D's Teatimer running which is good, but we need you to disable it for the remainder of the fix as it will interfere with the registry changes being made.
Open Spybot S&D in advanced mode, click Tools > Resident, and remove the check from "Resident Tea-Timer". Reboot after unchecking the entry.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable both of these again.

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Tsl] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa\tsl.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following items (if found):

You have Safe-Share on your computer. I would recommend removing it as it is a cracked version of the free program KCeasy. You can read about it here.

Step 4
Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 5
Please delete the following folders:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\tsa
C:\Program Files\safe-share

If you have any problem deleting these files, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 6
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.

I could not find tsa in C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES, or anywhere else. Presumably cleared it ?

Antispy warned me that Safe-Share was attempting a "fix" whilst I was uninstalling it. Told it to deny.

My Norton Anti-virus stuff is all swithed off (Norton Firewall is on), can I switch it back on?

A bit worried about the registry switch of my search & start page. Only diff is a "\" at the end of the path. it causes MS Antispy to warn me each time I connect.

I am mightyly impressed with your service and proffessionalism.

Thanks for all your help.
Alan et al,

Thought that I had replied already but no sign of it.

Only problem I had was no sign of tsl.exe in "common" or anywhere else.
My Norton AV is switched off (Norton firewall on), can I switch it back on?
Your new log is clean. Yes, definitely turn the Norton Antivirus back on. This is best defense against bad stuff while surfing the Internet. Let me know if there is any problem with turning this back on. We'll reset the Internet Explorer settings back to default to try and fix the search page problem. Open Microsoft AntiSpyware, click Tools < Advanced Tools < System Explorers. Click IE Settings from the left column then click 'Restore all IE Default Settings". Now click the line that contains Search Page (2nd line down) and click Change URL/page. Type the URL for the search page and click OK.
Yikes !!! Norton has gone haywire. Internet Security is as follows: Security………………………..Off Personal Firewall……………..Disabled Intrusion Detection…………..Disadbled Norton Antivirus………………Attention Privacy Control……………….Disabled Ad Blocking……………………Disabled Norton Antispam……………..Disabled When I click on"Statistics" everything is greyed out. Renwal date is 18/05/05 Norton Antivirus is as follows: Autoprotect……………………..Off E-mail Scanninf………………..Error Sc ript Blocking………………..On Full System Scan………………16/04/05 Virus Definitions………………..06/04/05 Renewal Date…………………..18/05/05 Automatic Live Update……….On If I click on Options, I get an error box which reads "You have insufficient privileges to complete this action" If I click on "Block Traffic" An error box reads "Restricted accounts are not allowed to block or allow traffic" I have checked my PC's date and time, both are correct. I am going to renew my subscription online anyway, see if that sorts it. I will post again, with a new log, after I have done so. Cheers. Llama Man
Nope, Norton won't let me update or renew.
New log as promised.

Troubled, but confident.

Well virus free I may be……… but: I can no longer use any of my norton features. I can no longer access any site that requires me to log on, Personal banking, e-bay, etc etc. I have adjusted my security settings, I have copied the URL's into "my trusted sites" but to no avail. I keep getting the "this page can not be displayed" page every time I try to visit a site that requires verification (except TomCoyote). Please help.
Uninstall Norton, reboot the computer then reinstall Norton Antivirus. Use LiveUpdate to check for updates. Let me know if this helps fix the problem.
Alan, You're a top geezer. Norton removed and re-installed. Took AGES, but well worth it. It's like having a new computer. Thank you, sincerely, for all your help. Donation on its way. Llama Man
Your new log is clean.:)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
4. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

Don't forget to enable Spybot S&D's Teatimer and Microsoft Antispyware's Realtime Protection.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
