Hi all

have a problem with my machine in that it keeps setting the start page to "http://./" and taking me to a web site called "4doawnload.biz".

I have run Norton Antivirus and removed some stuff, Run Adware SE and removed some stuff, run spybot search & destroy removed some stuff, run cwshredder and removed some stuff.

Hijackthis just confuses me. I have attached my log file and would appreciate any help in removing the problems. (i have installed mozilla as it works ok)

I have tried to remove both the R0 lines but they keep coming back??

any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi James,

* Download this regfile to your desktop: http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph…=post&id;=141093

Double-click it, and when it asks “Do you want to merge this with the registry” or something alike, confirm by clicking on Yes.

1. Run HijackThis (“Do a system scan only”). Put a checkmark near these lines:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = .
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = .

F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\System32\svhost.exe

O2 - BHO: BHO Class - {F6053709-5723-454E-AB9D-7FC7E681AFA5} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinTitle.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\video.exe

2. Close all other windows and browsers, and hit Fix Checked.

3. Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 frequently during bootup.
Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

4. Delete, in safe mode:
Files
C:\WINDOWS\System32\video.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svhost.exe << NOTE the spelling!! Only delete the file which matches the file given here EXACTLY!

5. Reboot into normal mode, make a new HijackThis log, and post it here :)
Hans, Thanks mate but my machine completley died today. The explorer.exe file was infected and after 5 hours trying to repair decided to rebuild from scratch. Thanks for helping sorry if I wasted your time James
That's no problem :)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers real-time protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
I also suggest that you delete your Temp folders regularly. Use CleanUp! to do this automatically for you!
