I keep getting ie windows opening with all sorts of spammy subjects … from internet gambling to anti adware ads. I think it may have something to do with my recentl installation of a program called exeem. I uninstalled it, but this did not help. I just got 3 annoying windows open while typing this. Make that 4…. uh 5. Also I cannot get Java to instL and run properly. Please help or next step is a full wipe and re-install.

Hello jackalope , Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
LDTate, 1) I downloaded and ran CWShredder per your suggestion. It wiped out my ability to access the inyernet which made me dead inthe water until I found and ran WinsockXPfix.exe which got me back on the internet. As soon as I wake up a ;ittle more, I'll run TrendMicro HouseCall, eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner, and Panda ActiveScan. Sound like I'm still on the right track? 2) There is a utility on my computer called "Virtual Bouncer" which keeps popping up messages promising to fix my hijacking problems, but I don't recall installing it, so I am leary of it. Have you ever heard of "Virtual Bouncer"? 3) Is anyone gonna look at my log file? Have they alteasy? I'm getting tired of watchiing Brad Pitt dodge the papperatzi. All the best, Jackalope.
I first came to this forrum for help on 4-2 at 4:24 pm becasue I was being utterly beseiged by hijacks. On LD Tate's advice, I downloaded CW shredder and ran it. No Problems, except I had to run Winsockfix before I could connect to the net again. Then I ran TrendMicro Housecall. It found 7 infected files bet could only remove 4 because the other 3 were "in use". Then I downloaded and tried for an hour or nore to run etrust Antivirus Webscanner, getting error message whenever I tried to run it. Then I downloaded Panda Activescan. It seemed to run fine. After scanning through two of my 3 HDs and nearly all of my 3rd, it had found something like 150 infected files. Then WHAM! My monitor went black and I haven't been able to get it back up since. Not even in safe mode. It displays the motherboard logo, then some text about devices, then the Windows XP logo with the streaming colored bar underneath (so I assume my graphics card is OK), and then when it should start displaying my desktop it goes black and stays that way. When I try to boot from my XP disk and and run a repair it says it can't see ant of my drives (C: is SATA) and D and E are both NTFS so maybe that's wht it can't see em). My fallback plan is to get another HD, install that as my C: drive and see if I can salvage the data from D and E. Then wipe D or E and install XP on it and see if I can salvage the data from C. Can any of our forum gurus please shed some light on my dilemma? -Jackalope
