Hello hokumfool, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you are still looking for help, please follow these directions.

1) Download CCleaner from here: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Please take the time to read the instructions on the download page so when I ask you to run it you will know what to do.

2) Your version of HJT is outdated. Before you post a new log please go here: http://www.malwareremoval.com/downloads.html Line items 1 and 2 allow you to choose the download you are comfortable with, please download Version 1.99.1 make sure you delete any old version and use this new version to post the next log.

3) Scan with HijackThis, put a check in the box in front of these line items:

Thank you very much for your time.
I did what you said.
I think my next move will be to get rid of all the garbage that is running in my task bar all the time. One program in particular got me started on this cleaning quest is "Kb891711". I think it showed up in my after I went to a susicious site that threw popups everwhere and eventually locked up my computer. It could have been in my task bar before I went to the suspecious site but I dont think it was. I searched on it and it appears it's a Mircosoft patch, so I dont know.
Anyways, thanks for your help and if you see or know to do anything else, I am open for advice.

Thank you,

Hokum

Hello hokumfool, That KB891711.EXE is of course a Microsoft Knowledge Base hotfix, and if it needs to run to protect your system it probably should be allowed to do so. Here is some information about it: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/…n/MS05-002.mspx and links to discussions at other forums so you can see what is being said about it.
http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=42672
http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=43037

I will venture to say the hostile ActiveX Netster was the source of your popups. It is a real piece of junk and you pick it up because of ActiveX controls not being set strong enough. The above information, especially that from Grinler at BleepingComputer will help you stop this. It is called a drive-by shooting. You stop to look at a site and leave infected.

You log looks good now, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
