Hi welcome to TOM COYOTE FORUMS

Do the following online scans

trendmicro
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
panda scan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Next run HIJACKTHIS, press SCAN and put a CHECK to the following lines.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm

Then CLOSE all other windows including this and press FIX CHECKED

You NEED a newer version of hijackthis. The current version is 1.99.1
Get it here
It is important that you get a newer version because some infections are not detected with a older hijackthis

After that REBOOT scan with hijackthis and
POST a new log in this thread using 'Post Reply'

hi, I am 21 this yr…female…hee…nice to meet someone from s'pore.. :D

anyway, i did what you asked me…but i can't run the trendmicro scan, this error msg came up:

House Call Message
Trend Active Update not updated successfully. It may result from busy server or bad netwrok traffic
Error code:28
Error string:Generic Source network failure

i retry many times…but still cannot scan.. :(

Find and delete the following file
DO NOT WORRY if you do not find them

servic.exe <— likely to be in C:\WINDOWS\System32\ or C:\WINDOWS\
take note of the way is it spelt
To check navigate to the file right click on the file and choose properties
Under the version tab, take a look at the company name and other information. If its blank or have some thing you never heard of then its likely to be bad. DO NOT DELETE a legitimate file !!! check back when in doubt

After that REBOOT scan with hijackthis and
POST a new log in this thread using 'Post Reply'

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.


Next run HIJACKTHIS, press SCAN and put a CHECK to the following lines.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Sygate Personal Firewall Start] servic.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Sygate Personal Firewall Start] servic.exe

Then CLOSE all other windows including this and press FIX CHECKED

After that you need to REBOOT into safe mode. to do that follow the instructions below

Start Windows, or if it is running, shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Find and delete the following files
DO NOT WORRY if you do not find them

servic.exe <— likely to be in C:\WINDOWS\System32\ or C:\WINDOWS\
take note of the way is it spelt
To check navigate to the file right click on the file and choose properties
Under the version tab, take a look at the company name and other information. If its blank or have some thing you never heard of then its likely to be bad. DO NOT DELETE a legitimate file !!! check back when in doubt


after that reboot and post a new hijackthis log
please also state whether you found the file or not

the thing is i can't seem to install the windows critical updates…it always fails..so i dunno what's wrong with my comp or has it got to do w the firewall? but really thanks for all the help :)
