Problem With Tm And Admin Tools Not Working In Xp

Hello;

I have been reading some posts that seem to relate to the same problem I am having. Problem was detected on Mar. 25 when I tried to run some Admin Tools and nothing was happening. I tried running them also directly from the system32 directory but to no avail. I also was trying to use my Task Manager and it would only come up for a couple seconds and go away or disappear when I put the mouse pointer over it. Also; the system has seemed to slow down quite a bit since this started.

I have run HJT and here is my results. Hope you can help. Regards…tbucket

Hi tbucket! And welcome to TomCoyote!

I'm 'KotaGuy, and I will be helping you with your HijackThis log.

Let's get started. Please print this out for reference during the fix.

First, boot into Safe Mode, to do this:

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Tap the F8 button as your computer is booting to bring you to the Advanced Options Menu.
3. Select Safe Mode and press Enter.

Second, make sure no files are hidden… to do this:

1. Click Start.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
7. Click Yes to confirm.
8. Click OK.

Next, turn off System Restore… to do this:

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" as shown in this illustration:
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.

Since you can't use Task Manager reliably at this moment, run HijackThis and click the Open the Misc Tools button. Click the Open Process Manager button. Hilite this line:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINLOGONPC.EXE

Click the Kill Process button.

Click the Back button.

Scan with HijackThis. With all other browsers and windows closed, place a check beside the following entries and Fix:
