I have been having problems removing connectix desktop designer and wild tangent. So a friend refered me here as he thinks I have been hijacked. Here is my scan results.

Hello hektic1, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help, I will see what I can do.

1) You have a nasty virus, it looks like this in your log:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSNSysRestore] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\pc32.exe bg
It is called a variant of the MASTAK VIRUS! I have not seen it before. We will have to quess how to rid you of it.

2) You have no Antivirus software on this computer that I can see. I also see no firewall. It is just not safe anymore to go online without these at least.

3) Here is what we will try, download this free version of AVG. Make sure you stay with free, do not select any trial version. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php Once this program in installed, first update it then run a complete system scan with it. Set it to clean or fix. You know what you are looking for, this information may help also: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-2292.html
If that free AVG program does not find and quarantine or delete this item, then run these two free online scans. We must locate and remove this virus. Have these scans fix or clean anything they locate and write down anything…the exact name and location of anything they find and can not fix. This is very important.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows then click on "Fix Checked"

To make sure the virus is gone, do this:
SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the follow link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete this item if it is there:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\pc32.exe >>> file

Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Stay in this thread and post a new log along with any information I asked for and any comments you have.

Hi I did do all 3 anti virus scan you mentioned and it is telling me no viruses are found. Now what do I do? Thanks

Please follow all of the instructions I posted for you. If you do then this would be the last instruction:

Hi hektic1, Gave me two logs huh? :P Your log is clean how is the computer running? I realize Windows 98 does not handle resources well, and you should look at your running programs to see if everything is really needed at startup, like: :\PROGRAM FILES\REAL\REALPLAYER\REALPLAY.EXE. If you discover stuff you can start via Start\Programs when you need it, Windows 98 will love you for it. I have an old Compaq with Win98SE on it and I close each program before opening another…lol. Here is some information about MSCONFIG: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ Just be careful not to turn off anything Windows needs to run. I also think you will be helped by this little utility to help you keep the computer clean: http://www.ccleaner.com/
You also have a lot of 016 (Downloaded Program Files) Look at them and the rest of your log, if there is anything you wished removed, let me know and I will give you instructions. With Windows98 every little bit helps.
