Hi,

My problems are: 1) Computer running slow, 2) Desktop background set to an html file, black with white and yellow text that says "WARNING, You're in Danger , etc… " and I can't change it. 3) Instead of going to my normal home page I'm redirected to abc-find.com. Thanks in advance for any help fixing these problems. Here is my log:

Hello zevi_35711 and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Step 1
HijackThis needs to be unzipped into a permanent folder in order to save backups just in case something goes wrong. Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:. Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT. Extract HijackThis from the zipped file into this new folder.

Step 2
You have Spywareguard running on your machine and that is good.
But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis it needs to be turned off.
Please do the following.

Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program, Menu, file, exit, and confirm the programs close.

Unless they are turned off they could interfere with the fix by hijackthis.

Step 3
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://abc-find.com/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://abc-find.com/index.htm
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://abc-find.com/index.htm
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://abc-find.com/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://abc-find.com/index.htm

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [jhnthtn] c:\windows\mimllbg.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.hta

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.

You have Security iGuard on your computer. This is on the Rogue/Suspect antispyware list as it badgers users into purchase, reported hijacking by affiliates. You can read about it here. This is optional but I strongly recommend checking this entry than removing this program with Add/Remove Programs.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Security iGuard] C:\Program Files\Security iGuard\Security iGuard.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 4
Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following items (if found):

Security iGuard << Optional - see above

Step 5
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 6
Please delete the following files:

c:\windows\mimllbg.exe
C:\windows\smebbnc.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Microsoft Office.hta

If you have any problem deleting these files, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 7
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Thanks very much for the help so far. I think I completed all of the steps you listed correctly.

The only problem I'm having now is, my screen will flash and I lose my icons and open windows – they all go blank – for about one second, then a Windows Explorer box pops up and says "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry … " and it asks me to send an error report. Once I send the report and close it, the screen flashes, I lose all my icons for a second, then the same Windows Explorer Error box pops up, and it repeats. If I just leave the Send Error Report box open and click nothing, then the screen doesn't flash and my icons don't disappear, and the computer seems to work fine.

I noticed this: rwkjeyk.exe in the hijackthis log and googled on it and nothing came up. Could that be the problem?

Anyway, here is the new log. Thanks again.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Srv32 spool service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cktypge] c:\windows\rwkjeyk.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [Srv32 spool service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 4
Please delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe
c:\windows\rwkjeyk.exe

If you have any problem deleting these files, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 5
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Hi,

Now the only thing I notice wrong is that my desktop background is still pointing to an html file that says "Warning, You are in Danger … ", and it won't allow me to change it.

Here is the new log. Thanks.

Step 1
You have Spywareguard running on your machine and that is good.
But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis it needs to be turned off.
Please do the following.

Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program, Menu, file, exit, and confirm the programs close.

Unless they are turned off they could interfere with the fix by hijackthis.

Step 2
Click Start < Run and type services.msc. Scroll down to Loading Outpost Connections and right click on it. Click Properties and under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Step 3
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmdtel.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 4
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 5
Please delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmdtel.exe

If you have any problem deleting these files, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 6
Reboot normally. Click Start < Control Panel < Display and on the Desktop tab click Customize Desktop. On the General tab click Restore Defaults. On the Web tab, remove all items that you did not place there.

Step 7
Scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
When I went to Step 3, I did not see this in the scan:

O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmdtel.exe

But I continued on, and when I got to Step 5 I did find this:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmdtel.exe

and deleted it.

I completed Step 6 and it still wouldn't allow me to change the desktop background, so I did the step again, and it worked.

Now my computer seems to be fine. I think it is fixed!

Your new log is clean.:)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 3, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\Every username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files (Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Files), be sure to also select delete all offline content.
Empty the Recycle Bin.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Your welcome. Glad to hear the computer is running great.
