I keep getting a puk.exe or and mudaki.exe program even though I have repeatedly deleted it, and it keeps bringing up a dialer box that connects me to an adult site that posts charges on my phone bill. I had to disconnect the phone line from my computer in order to prevent charges because this thing pops up every 20 minutes or so without my doing anything. I also keep getting a program called rasphone.pbk that keeps recurring after being deleted. Please view the following log and tell me if there is anything that looks suspicious–I'd greatly appreciate your help! Thank you! :)

Hi :) Thanks for getting back to me. I did what you asked and then rebooted my computer. This is what happened:

Right away an error box popped up that said "Windows cannot find '[there were no letters in the name of the file–just a bunch of empty squares (7 squares, a space, and then 14 more squares)]'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." There is an "OK" button on the bottom. When I click OK,

Another error box pops up–this time it shows "Desktop" in the top bar of the box, and the text in the box is: "Could not load or run '[same file as I mentioend above with all the squares]' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry." When I click OK,

The first box shows up again; when I click OK again, the second box appears again. When I click OK again, the box goes away and nothing else appears. Windows then proceeds to load all the startup programs.

I haven't seen any sign of the Mudaki virus or dialer, but I haven't opened or used Internet Explorer either. It seemed like there was some correlation to when I opened IE and when the dialer would pop up. I read in another person's inquiry that getting rid of IE would help with this. So I did that, and now I'm using Mozilla as an internet browser. I haven't seen the pop-up dialer since, but now I have all these little "kinks" in the system. My Microsoft Outlook has been acting funny off and on; and if I close it out and then try to open it again, it will not open up without rebooting my computer first. And then there's also those error boxes that occur at every startup. I've copied and pasted a current HiJackThis log below. Please take a look and let me know if there's anything else I should fix. Thanks SO much for your help!

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=??? ??? ??? ? ? ?????
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=??? ??? ??? ? ? ?????

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications and how the computer is behaving.
That seemed to fix it–thanks! Should I just continue to use Mozilla for a browser, or do you think I could use IE again?

Here is the current log:

Should I just continue to use Mozilla for a browser, or do you think I could use IE again?

That is up to your preference. Your computer should be clean of anything bad now.

MOST IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and IE to get all the Latest Security Patches to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the internet.
I recommend going to the following link and updating to SP2. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Updates

Here is a great link that explains the procedure for updating to SP2 with less complications.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
