on startup i keep getting prevadkeep in my processes and it just keeps replicating itself. please help!!!!

Step 1
Please update to HijackThis 1.99.1. (Open HijackThis and click config.. < Misc. Tools and click Check for Update Online.)


Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.


Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.


Step 4
Please delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dovouegi.exe << File Only

C:\Program Files\Preview AdService << Whole Folder

Step 5
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.

I tried to update to 1.99.1 but everytime I did it said the file had a worm in it. I fixed everything just like you said and reposted after reboot. Computer seems to be working good, glad the prevad is gone. I couldn't find dovouegi.exe in the windows ffolder.

I tried to update to 1.99.1 but everytime I did it said the file had a worm in it. I fixed everything just like you said and reposted after reboot.

You will need to update your McAfee Antivirus definitions in order to update to HijackThis 1.99.1. There was an issue with it when this new version was released but has since been addressed by McAfee and the problem is fixed. :)


However, your new log is clean.:)

I recommend going to the following link and updating to SP2. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.
