Hellojulie23 , Welcome to the TC.

I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - - (no file)

ALL 016's. They'll come back if needed,

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode

Press the F8 key, when you see the Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen.

Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

To configure Windows to show all files

Do one of the following:
In Windows 98/Me/2000, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.

In Windows Me/2000/XP, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
Do one of the following:

In Windows Me/2000/XP, uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, click Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Search for and delete these files if listed:
C:\WINNT\system32\CSRSSU.EXE
C:\WINNT\system32\CTFMON32.EXE
C:\WINNT\sehlp.dll

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERYListed Profile USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Mr Tate Thank you so much. I hope my little subterfuge at signing up as a girl was taken in the lightheartedness I meant it in. :)

I am back to normal now although there were some issues with my situation.

1) I could not boot up in safe mode, my domain was not available and so my password was useless.

BUT using your excellent advice as a template I did the following:

I use cyberscrub 3.5 and I first tried to run hijack and then reboot. then run cyberscrub on the three files you indicated csrssu.exe, ctfmon.exe, and sehlp.dll

Maybe I did something wrond but it did not work, then I erased the files with cyberscrub and it restarts because the files were in use. then I use hijack to clean the registry and then I deleted all the temp files you indicated. and it worked. You know now having written it out, maybe I did not delete ALL theh temp files the first time. Any way it wasn't pretty (is it ever?) but it worked!!!

here is my latest log file after a restart.

PS in the future I will be on as grandycook. Say hi if you see me. THis is a great site. And I plan on signing up for paypal to show my appreciation…

PPS Where would I post a ? on a norton av error?

I'd do a Google search about the error you're having.

Good Job

Looks good :D

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
