I notice cxtnlide.exe tries to start whenever I restart or shutdown. I have no idea what this program is. I have some unfamiliar entries in the HijackThis log.

Welcome to the forum.

Please move HJT into its own permanent folder so backups can be made in case of a mistake. Suggest: C:\HJT\HJT.exe

HowToShowHiddenFiles - <—enable this


Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes if listed:

cxtnlide.exe


Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close all programs down, leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:


O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000000-F09C-02B4-6EC2-AD0300000000} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [439k37P] piabvm50.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cxtnlide] c:\windows\system32\cxtnlide.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Delete these files:

c:\windows\system32\cxtnlide.exe
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
piabvm50.exe <—you'll have to search for this one


Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and lets see how we did, MrC

First of all, many thanks to MrCharlie for the help yesterday. I am making progress.

cxtnlide.exe is in the \windows\system32 directory and thus protected. I do not know how to delete it.

A lot of spyware appears to be getting by the blockers. That's why I think something resident is either launching it or allowing it to get through.

There may be other things as well. Most of the stuff in the HJT report I recognize, but there a couple I do not know. Maybe bad guys, maybe not?

Can you find this file, right click on it and choose properties and see what info you can find out about it. It should be a Mircosoft file. If not let me know.

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder - we'll use it later.


Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes if listed:

C:\windows\system32\ cxtnlide.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close all programs down, leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Now open up the KillBox and copy and paste each of these in and hit delete:

If they won't delete, the KillBox has a delete on reboot option and also replace on reboot - use dummy. Try them

Reboot and post back a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
