OK… I removed them from the startup, rebooted into safe mode, deleted two instances of nhuffg and one of kwiqqu and then ran the reg cleaner and removed about five keys… Rebooted and there were NEW entries under the start up for Kwiqqu and nhuffg with the previous ones STILL unchecked. It keeps propogating some how! :rant2: Just getting on here to post I got another popup from exitexchange too… I'm thinking of leaving selective startup on and turning off the msconfig startup message, at least that way they don't run! any other thoughts?
*Please download
xphidden.zip to your desktop.
*Double click on the XPHidden.zip to open the file
*then double click on xphidden.reg to add the information to your registry.
*This will cause all super-hidden files and protected system files to be visible.

Now search from them:
Kwiqqu and nhuffg
Didn't seem to do much…

I added the file to the registry, then I searched for the two files, which showed up (original locations, nothing new) and deleted them…

I ran the registrar again and cleaned a few entries from the registry too…

I rebooted, searched for the files again. This time, nhuffg didn't show up, but kwiqqu did in the prefetch folder again.

I went to the prefetch folder and deleted all files again, rebooted, and made another log. It's still there!!!!

nothing at all.. just the default string with a type of REG_SZ and no value set…. This machine just has the rare popup now. I've worked all weekend on this with you (which I thank you immensly) and at this stage of the game I don't know what else to try. I have half a mind to install SP2 and turn the popup blocker to MAX… Do you want me to try adaware or SB again with any special settings?
You don't need to download them again just run per instructions

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

I think you did!

I ran AdAware and SB, SB couldn't rid itself of some registry entries, so I manually deleted them. It still showed kwiqqu on the last log, which I was about to post and then saw your most recent post asking to try killbox again.

I ran killbox and deleted the files you asked and here's the latest HJT log. It looks clean now! :)

What's next? turn off and on system restore and install sp2?

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thanks LD! You're the MAN! I can't believe this fix took three pages!! I already installed SG, spywareblaster, and IE-spyad on this machine earlier trying to see if that would help before trying HJT… Great, It's turn off and then back on the system restore, add anti-virus, and then update to SP2. Thanks again! I hope I don't have to pick your brain for a while! Mustang Man Out!
