Within the last two days my workstation has ground to a halt. I have run spyware and virus programs (Norton AV, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spy Sweeper, and No Adware) on it and still it only works 20% of what it was.

When I open IE, I notice that it no longer goes to my original startscreen and I get popups on a regular basis…in short, I'm hooped! :rant2:

My research has lead me to Hijack This and this forum. I hope that you can help me and that I'm posting things right. Believe it or not, this is the first thing that I couldn't fix in over 15 years of this stuff.

While I'm doing this, I'm being redirected to the Buldog site…tres annoying!

Here is the logfile…

Hopefully someone can help me. My normal startup screen for IE6 is http://edition.cnn.com and I use Google for my searches. This new Bulldog crap is just that…crap.

Whatever else you need, I will provide…another popup trying to run…horny British teenagers. I nuked that one about every 30 minutes…it seems that I've got demon dialers even though I have removed the programs, they reappear.

HELLLLLP!

Thanks

Download the Hoster from here: » http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip
Press 'Restore Original Hosts' and press 'OK'
Exit Program.

NEXT

You have a peper infection that we need to remove

http://www.memorywatcher.com/uninst.exe

When you run the uninstaller, you MUST have an internet connection active for it to work

This Peper removal tool only works if run twice. To complete each stage of the Peper removal you need to REBOOT to clear the peper infection each time you run the tool, or the infection will remain.

Step # 2

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popu…WShredder.shtml

REBOOT

Step #3

Please download and run Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware. Then follow the instructions in the links below to run.

Spybot Tutorial

AdAware Tutorial

Step # 4

Please do an online scan,
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
Thanks much, I'm starting this process now. Interestingly enough I was able to start changing things last night AFTER I posted the log by simply disconnecting from the web and my changes stayed in place. I stopped some processes (Hub*.*, Popup*.*) and my CPU use dropped dramatically… <10%. I presume that they will reappear when I restart. My fingers are crossed. Thanks again KCT :D
Finally finished all the scans and am preparing to install ZoneAlarm.

Here is the new HIjack This log…

Things are working much better now and the processes that I nuked did not come back.

In addition to the CWShredder, I also ran Lavasoft's SpySubtract and it caught some additional items…with no visible problems.

Looking forward to your review of this file.

Thanks :wavey:

Then reboot.

PLease do an online virus scan here >>> http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

Then reboot when it is vinished and post a new log .
I let Panda do it's indepth thing and it ran all day…very impressive. In addition it found nine additional viri, that the others didn't. They're history.

Computer runs a little slower than before with the firewall and virus/adware software installed but no more popups…this is a good thing. :D

I do notice a longer connection time for the internet, but maybe that has to do with the new settings and software. Can you tell me please?

Ran HijackThis and here is the log….

I now have System Idle at 97% on CPU not like before…<10%.

Thanks so far, it has been a real experience.

Looking forward to your review.

According to ZoneAlarm, there have been 318 attempts to infiltrate my computer in the last 24 hours; 37 of which are high-rated. This setup definitely feels more secure. Thanks very much for all the help.   KCT
If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
