1. Lets do a Ad-Aware scan. Please follow the instructions.

2.Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

10. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

Next: Be sure to get SpyWare Blaster and SpyWare Guard.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

Reboot:

"copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok, this is getting frustrating. I can delete ooyiko, there is only one copy acording to my search, it is in System32. I delete it, and within seconds, it reappears. I permanantly delete it and it reappears. I tell killbox to delete on reboot, it reappears. AdAware SE finds anywhere from 3 to 11 VBX or CoolWeb entries, dlls or processes to delete, I delete them through AdAware, re-run and they are back, in varying numbers. I tried deleting all these things in safe mode as well, with all the same results. One interesting thing that I have noticed is that when I first boot up (safe mode, or normal mode) in my Startup folder there is a file called ppyunp.exe. Searching for this file on my drive reveals nothing, and it often disappears from the startup menu after I have been booted for a while. IE still pops up on its own, starting out on ads.doubleclick.com and the getting redirected to http://s.urllogic.com/showpopup.php?pid=99…t=1&cid;=1098445 which results in "Cannot find Server".

Here is an AdAware Log:

And a hjt log as well. I didnt bother to let AdAware remove anything this time, as they just keep coming back, and I wanted the hjt log to be with them there for you. Actually, I see that ppyunp is listed in the hjt log now as well. Will wait to hear from you before checking and fixing that.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thanks for the help. There was a Key under Internet Explorer -> Explorer Bars that appeared to have a raw name, in it was ooyiko, along with various GAIN, Gator et al entries. I deleted the entire key. ooyiko.exe is now gone. I also re-ran AdAware and remove the VX and CoolWeb entries it found, and rebooted, now AdAware finds nothing. I haven't seen a popup since doing this, but, admittedly, it has not been very long. A little web surfing produced no popups, and a google search did not open a new tab with some other random search page. Here is my latest log file, hopefully we are close, if not there. Again, thanks for all your help, you've been great.

GREAT Job
I'm glad you knew how to use regedit. Just shows how deeply hidden they can be and very hard to kill :D

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
I guess we crossed paths and both entered a post at the same time. Sorry…

Just rebooted, and cannot find ooyiko in registry, but it is in system32 again, along with uuzoau.dll.

Adaware is, of course, reporting those buggers, along with ppyunp.exe which keeps showing up in my startup menu, even tho I deleted it and any reference to it inmy registry. :rant2:

Is that in the registry? If so, do you know how to export the key to the desktop and then delete in from the registry?

Lets run these again.

1) double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

2) Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
Yes, that is how ooyiko is in my registry, but not in all users, it is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE…..Microsoft\Run\. I dont know how to export one key from the registry, can't see that as an option anywhere. Step 1. Off to do 2 and reboot. Go ahead and run regedit again and find all ooyiko and uuzoau and remove them. When finished: Empty Recycle Bin Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment. I getting ready to call it a night. We'll work on it tomorrow
heh, me too. Wife already did ;) . When I ran step 2 of l2mfix, it errored near the end, "Cannot import cleanup.reg…"
Here is the log file tho, followed by a new hjt file. Interestingly enough, this time there was no trace of ooyiko or uuzoau in the registry:

Thx again
