Vx2 Narrator & Coolweb Return After Reboot

The VX2 Narrator and Coolweb components return to my machine after being removed with Ad-Aware, Spybot and Microsoft Antispyware Beta. Only real problem seems to be pop-ups and redirects when surfing with Mozilla Firefox but there may be other issues I haven't noticed. I'm assuming a reinstaller keeps putting this junk back on my computer but I can't locate it. Here is my hjt file taken after a reboot with all startup processes enabled. Thanks!

Andrew

Go here, download the FindItNT-2K-XP.zip and extract the files from the zip. Navigate to the Find It NT-2K-XP folder and double-click on find.bat. A command prompt will open and it will search your computer for malicious files. Once it has finished a Notepad window will pop up with output.txt. Copy the entire contents of output.txt into your next post.

Don't reboot from now on unless I instruct it otherwise this pest will morph.
Wow, thanks for the quick response. Here is the text from the output file: Warning! This utility will find legitimate files in addition to malware. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS] "Installed"="1"
You are not as infected as you thought. Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

m?iexec.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished, find and delete: C:\WINDOWS\system32\m?iexec.exe

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Nvifn] C:\WINDOWS\system32\m?iexec.exe
O23 - Service: ZESOFT - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\zeta.exe (file missing)

Reboot when done, rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Does the ? represent any character? I have a process running called msiexec.exe and there is a corresponding file in the system32 folder. Isn't this also the name of a necessary MS file? Just checking, I don't want to delete a necessary file by accident.
Don't delete the legitimate file. You are looking for a file that actually has ? in it. If you can't see it, do this so you can see hidden files and folders - click here to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double click the xphidden.reg and when asked to merge say yes. Then have a look.

If you still can't find it just fix the HJT entries - that will stop it.
downloaded xphidden and merged. still couldn't find m?iexec.exe after doing a system-wide search. fixed the recommended entries and rebooted, rescanned. Here is the log file:

Looking good. Scans did not return the VX2 Narrator or any CoolWeb components. I think I'm in the clear. Thanks for all your help!
You're welcome - glad to help :D

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?
