I am in the process of the panda scan again. I have the results of the eScan still and the 202 viruses. I just cant copy them. Again, they are mostly Troj in C: documents and settings. I tried to run a hijack this log but a screen came up saying it is already running? Can you recommend software that I can buy to clean this mess up? I really appreciate your help but I'm about to throw this computer out the window!

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.



Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.


Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin

Click HERE and dowwnload a free 15 day trial of Trojan Hunter. Run a full scan and clean.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Download Registrar Lite from here:
http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks

In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.
We want to remove this one -> ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}

Right click on it, and select delete.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out the program.



When you ran Trojan Hunter scab did it delete the virus's.


Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

I did what you suggested. The Trojan Hunter did remove some viruses. My computer seems to be behaving better. Here is my log.

Lets do this now.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

Let me know when you're finished with the above.

It seems to be running much better! I did get my McAfee running. Do you recommend anything to keep it this way? My McAfee subscription runs out this month, is there a better virus protection. Also, do you recommend purchasing the Trojan Hunter? Will it keep the viruses from coming back? I really appreciate your help. This has been a long process. ANG

Trojan Hunter is a very good program. There isn't any one program that will do it all. In the final post I give you, they'll also be a couple more free programs you should pickup. SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster.

One thing I will point out, it isn't a good idea to run two Anti-Virus programs at the same time. So you need to remove one of them. If you want to wait until your McAfee runs out, then remove Trojan Hunter.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
