Check My Logfile, Please

Since a few weeks, my PC reacts very slowly now and then and it takes more time to boot than before. Today I even heard some funny sounds whereas no program was running (at least not started by me).
AdAware and Spybot did not lead to any results (apartfrom one data miner).

Could you please have a look at my logfile, which looks as follows:

Hello jvdV and welcome to Tom Coyote,

I have lookled at your log file and it seems that your computer is clean. You have all the windows updates and anti-virus software installed.

I am wondering if you may have a hardware problem with your computer? Could the funny sounds be coming from your hard drive. or a fan going bad?

Ken545
Dear Ken545, Thanks for your reaction. The funny sound has not returned. I am quite sure it was not a hardware problem, but something that was (temporarily?) loaded on my computer. To what extent could the "slserv.exe (file missing)" in one of the O23 lines cause a problem? Another strange thing is that the booting process of my computer looks different since a number of weeks. After a cold start, before the Windows logo comes up there is a bar coming upon the screen filling up from left to right as if the computer revives from the sleeping mode (whereas it was fully switched off), but a little bit quicker that a revival from sleeping mode. Some weeks earlier I suddenly got the message "boot.ini missing; starting up from C:\windows" during the booting process. I fixed that by placing a back-up version of boot.ini (which I coincidentally found in a directory called C:\Windows\pss) in the root directory. Have you got any idea if all of the above is related and/or where it may come from? Regards, JvdV
JvdV,

Please post a fresh Hijackthis log and let me review it again. If there is no virus or malware present, I can direct you to some excellent support sites that handle hardware and software issues. The 03 line with the missing file slserv.exe is related to your SMARTLINK MODEM DRIVERS.

KEN545
Dear Ken545,

This is my logfile. What do you think about the http://sib1.od2.com at the end of the logfile? It doesn't mean anything to me and it contains some setup program.

Dear Ken545,

Apologies! I used the older versies of HJT in my previous message.
The logfile below has been made with HJT version 1.99. The line with the http://sib1.od2.com (see my previous post) for some reason dissappeared when I submitted my post (isn't that strange?), but in this log it is still there under the 4th O16 line.

JvdV,

After a second review of your log, I still find no evidence of Virus or any Malware present on your system. The 4th 016 line that you are referring to is related to the Napster set up files.

Tom Coyote is dedicated to removing Malware and Viruses, so since I believe that your problem is either hardware or software related, I am posting some links to excellent tech support boards that specialize in hardware and software problems. Most times these problems don't just appear out of nowhere. You have to think back just prior to you having this problem if you uninstalled or installed any new hardware of software, including SP2. I have personally between my workplace, home and friends installed SP2 on over 40 computers without any problems..BUT…I have heard horror stories about installations that went bad and caused all kinds of weird behavior.

Please go to this links, they require registration but are all free sites.

Good luck, I hope you get your problem resolved and thanks for using Tom Coyote.

KEN545
Dear Ken545, Thanks for your reaction. As far as I remember I never used Napster on this PC, so it strikes me as strange to find a line relating to it. Anyway, I am glad there is no software problem. I will refer to the hardware links you gave. You can close this topic. Regards, JvdV
