My internet browser works ok except my home page keeps getting reset to a variety of porn search sites. Even after I reset my home page to something safe it doesn't last.

I ran ad aware and spybot s&d and deleted the problems found but the problem still re-occurs.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Brian, Welcome to TomCoyote forum, First we need to get HijackThis.exe out of the temporary folder and into a safe permanent folder for the backups (if you make a mistake) and logs you create. The following link should help to do this: http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm

Suggested removal, read the links. If you wish to remove my suggestions which have a history of known adware, spyware and other issues, then follow the directions, if there is anything you wish to keep, pass over it in the instructions. Thanks.

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/libra…yer/index.phtml
http://computercops.biz/startuplist-4102.html
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=13470

Use Add Remove programs to remove these items if they are there. Once removed, some of the items below may no longer be there below:

Viewpoint or Viewpoint Manager
IESearchToolbar
AWS or weatherbug
WildTangent

Open Task Manager, under the Processes tab, end process on any of these items or anything that looks like them. If the program was removed in Add Remove programs, some may not be there.
IESearchToolbar
Viewpoint or Viewpoint Manager
AWS or weatherbug
WildTangent

Enable hidden files for your Operating System using the instructions in this link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind…showtutorial=62

Scan with HijackThis and check each of these line items if they are still there:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://find-on-the-net.com/search.htm
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://web-searcher.info
O2 - BHO: IE Search Toolbar Helper - {2C5175A2-ADF3-4F57-AB70-BA90FD60A383} - C:\Program Files\IESearchToolbar\IESearchToolbar.dll
IESearch Toolbar
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {327C2873-E90D-4c37-AA9D-10AC9BABA46C} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: IE Search Toolbar - {EB381422-F797-4A98-A266-9DC490821907} - C:\Program Files\IESearchToolbar\IESearchToolbar.dll
(suggested removal: WildTangent)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain
(Suggested removal: Weatherbug)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.EXE 1

RIGHT click on Start, then click on Explore. In the tree that opens locate and delete any item that is there:

C:\PROGRAm Files~1\AWS >>> Folder

C:\Program Files\IESearchToolbar >>> folder

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\WildTangent >>> folder

Run Cleanmgr: Start, Run type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then ok. Check and remove anything that windows locates. Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Use the following two links to stay in the same thread:
When replying to your topic, please use the

Hi Brian, You still have not repaired the location of your HJT log as I requested in my first post. If you should make a mistake, once the temp stuff is emptied, you will no longer have any backups to rely on. Please follow the directions in this link:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm and fix this please.

I worked through the steps in the various steps in the instructions and links you supplied the problem seems to be fixed. This is an amazing website.

Thanks, our major problem is there are far too many logs and only a few who volunteer to help. There is no way we can get to the all, The malware writers may be winning the battle?

The first of these following three lines is a search, the second two are Sony as you can see. If you do not use the search or Sony as a Start Page, you may use HijackThis to delete these. Just follow the earlier instructions (after you relocate the HJT.exe)

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://home.iwon.com/?v=1
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.sony.com/vaiopeople
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.sony.com/vaiopeople

Your log is clean, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

I did place hijackthis.exe in a folder C:\HJT as directed in the link in your first reply.

When I ran my cleaned up log I may not have done it correctly. I have again run a scan having saved the program to c:\HJT. I get confused with running this program since it seems I have to go back to some link on tomcoyote.com to get to hijackthis.com.

I may be ignorant but I can't figure out how to run a scan from the hijackthis.exe saved at c:\HJT.

Here is the scan that I think was saved at c:\HJT:

Hello Brian, Not to worry, the bad stuff is gone, let's see if I can help with the other issues for future reference.

I did place hijackthis.exe in a folder C:\HJT as directed in the link in your first reply.

The Temporary status of HJT is still being shown in the log, see this line:
C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

When I ran my cleaned up log I may not have done it correctly. I have again run a scan having saved the program to c:\HJT. I get confused with running this program since it seems I have to go back to some link on tomcoyote.com to get to hijackthis.com.

This one has me thinking, I don't know why you would have to return to TomCoyote to run the program, we will work this out.

I may be ignorant but I can't figure out how to run a scan from the hijackthis.exe saved at c:\HJT.

I understand, one does have to return to the C:\HJT folder and open it to reach the HJT.exe and click it to make it run. You can make a shortcut to the desktop if you wish.

First, look at the C:\Documents line above. That is were we want to go. Open MyComputer, then Local Disk (C:), then Documents and Settings, then Dad, then Local Settings. then Temp, open that Temp folder that is where you will see the .zip file if it is still there. Please do this, in the Temp folder delete all of the contents. NOT THE FOLDER, just the contents.
If there is a lot in the folder, you can click on Edit, then Select All, then click on delete.

If the HJT.zip file was there it is now gone. Close back to the Desktop. Now choose MyComputer, then Local Disk (C:), look for this folder: C:\HJT. If it is there, open it to see if the HJT.exe is there. You know what it looks like by now. Point the mouse at the HJT.exe and right click on it, then click on Send to then click on Desktop (create shortcut) You now have the HJT.exe shortcut where you can run it when you need to. Caution other users that it is not a toy, they should leave it alone. Here is a tutorial and you may also use this position to store it if it helps, it just must not be TEMP as temp stuff gets dumped and you would loose backups and logs at that point. I hope this helps. On occasion and error does occur and the backups are needed.

You should also visit the links to stay clean I gave you earlier, I suggest at the very least, Ad-aware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and IE-Spyad. These programs alongs with a firewall and antivirus program will go a long way towards keeping you safe. I also need to say that keeping the programs updated on a regular basis is VIP. They cannot protect you otherwise. I hope this helps.
Thanks…pskelley

Thank you for your very patient and helpful instructions. I followed your instructions and emptied my temporary files. I then went to C:/HJT and this is what was in the folder HIJACKTHIS.EXE-3A97CJB7.PF hijackthis.log hijackthis.log3 hijackthis.zip When I opened the zip file there was a HijackThis.exe file but it didn't have the same graphical look as the one in the Temp folder did and as your information shows. When I double click on the program I get a message saying that hijackthis appears to have started from a temporary folder. It says it is wise to copy HijackThis.exe to a folder of its own such as c:programfiles\HiJackthis . . . If I click ok on that message I get the HijackThis New users start screen.
Hi Brian, Your log is clean, I will close this thread. I suggest you ask someone to help you place the HJT properly. It will not be a concern if you follow the all clean instructions. Thanks and good luck…pskelley
